She says even a very very elderly or ill person can do it. However, she says you should do a parasite cleanse first, that takes a week. Quoting: mopar28mI hope your experience turns out better than mine then. I understand that the Mayo is supposed to be the best in the world but when I had my wife there, they basically set her up for one test per day the whole time we were there and never came up with anything. I only had a weeks vacation and they expected us there for over three weeks. I could not afford accomodation for any longer. Even after insurance, this was costing way too much. Turned out the siesures she was having were a result of sleep apnea and anaesthetics as explained by a small town doctor. The whole time we were at the Mayo I told the docs that she only ever had seisures after surgery. She had quite a few due to her Crohns disease. Having passed on my horror story, I do wish the best of luck. |

Quoting: dude in floridaShe started having problems with her bile duct. (won't open) Last month they tried to make it open, they botched it which led to an onset of pancreatitis. Her bild duct still hasn't opened and she is waiting for another surgery attempt. PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE ARE ANY ALTERNATIVES THAT CAN HELP HER AVOID THE BUTCHERS!!! THANK YOU GLP IN ADVANCE!!! Friend, I can not offer you advice on where to go, other than to say the Mayo in Rochester is supposed to be the best in the world. Aside from that though. My wife lost 100 pounds in 8 months due to having Crohns disease. Although she was heavy enough to begin with that that ammount didn't kill her, she was very sick for a long time. I can tell you that she needs you to be at her side right now, even if she acts in any way that you don't understand. She has a lot on her mind right now and needs your support. Sounds like she has it so I applaud you. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4406 United States 04/15/2007 12:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think I would try to get the bile duct open with the epson salts first. Definitely do not try the full liver cleanse with the duct blocked. The gall stones actually form in the liver -- then stack up in the gall bladder. The parasite kill may not be a bad option either -- because she could have one blocking the duct. Just think I would try the easiest first. |
Hope this helps User ID: 210087 Canada 04/15/2007 02:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've known plenty of people who have gone to Mayo. It's no better than anywhere else... just BIGGER. Just as much chance for a doc to screw up there as anyplace. Is her bile duct not opening at ALL??? It must be opening at least a bit at times or the toxins being released by the liver would have backed up into her system (blood stream) in a short period of time (a few days) and she would be vomiting from the nausea and so dizzy she wouldn't be able to stand up. So there is no way she has gone a month without her bile duct opening at all. Unless possibly she is in the hospital, being fed through I.V. and on a hepatic dialysis machine. But I'm not saying I don't believe you.... just that if she's still walking around, it's opening a BIT. And yeah, if they screwed up a bile duct corrective surgery, pancreatitis would be very very likely. Sorry to ask really personal questions, but.... Is she having ANY bowel movements? What color are they? (even if they are not normal) You could certainly try a liver flush. It is true that they can easily be done without a gallbladder... but I've never heard of one being done with someone whose bile duct won't open. The epsom salts could potentially help relax it and it MIGHT allow some bile through. But I would make sure she is well hydrated beforehand and then give two tablespoons of epsom salts dissolved in a glass of slightly warm water. An hour later, give a fairly small amount of sunflower seed oil mixed with lemon juice (maybe two tablespoons of each). Put a heating pad over the liver/gallbladder area for 45 minutes or so and see if she expereinces any "movement" of any kind. If the duct releases any bile, she should be able to tell by how she feels (she'll either FEEL it open and hear movment in her intestines) or she'll feel pretty ill from the toxins released (in which case she should do an enema to get rid of the toxins....possibly more than one over the course of a day or so). BUT.... As much as I don't like doctors.... if this is a case where her bile duct is not opening, you might want to make sure a doctor knows what you are doing... or be near an ER in case something goes wrong. I don't mean to scare you, but although liver flushes are great, sometimes people run into problems with them, even with "normally functioning anatomy". Have the docs told her any theory as to WHY they think her bile duct won't open???? I wish her all the best. |

I wish her all the best. hey, thanks for your input. i would never make something like this up. i also need to clarify that we're not married nor are we together anymore but we're close friends and we have kids together. so i care about her well-being deeply. i asked her today what her bowel movements were like and she told me that she DOESN'T HAVE ANY. she said she gives herself an enema every couple of days and she's on 6 different types of medication. she says that's the only reason she's able to function somewhat normally and help take care of the kids. i am so afraid for her life if she goes back under, that's why i'm hoping there is some alternative. |

If you have the funds to travel I recomend that you take her to the Methodist Hospital in Houston Texas. Make an appointment to see Dr. Barroso. He is a gastrenterologist and a gastric surgeon. Probably the best in the world. He has performed the same surgery that you describe but had to construct the bile duct out of surrounding tissue after removing a large tumor that had obstructed her small intestine, in one patient of his that I knew. It was an incredibly complicated proceedure and he had to be creative. The young woman lives a normal and healthy life now. His skill is unmatched and his manner is warm and friendly. I know him personally and have been to him with my own gastric ailments. there is none better. Dr. Barroso at the Methodist Hospital. In Houston Texas. |

DON'T buy the extremely sweet and deluted 'juices', as there is NOT enough acid in them to work. Buy sweetened cranberry juice, NO fillers and take it like medicine three times a day. Haven't had stone problems since the early 1980s. I am NOT a doctor; just former science teacher WITH a minor in chemistry. I KNOW what works for me. Eagle |
