If Jinping really cared about his people, he wouldn't be doing a power grab.....

You realize, Jinping is now as powerful as Mao....

You say he doesn't want war, yet Jinping has changed the direction of his country from being peaceful to being more aggressive and to acquire more land. Just look at those coral reefs in the China sea (in International Waters) that the Chinese turned into islands....

You think those Islands are for tourists and Club Med. Nope, they are militarized and deemed China's territory...

So what is next??? Taiwan or Philippine Islands and claiming the China sea belongs to China...

China's like the Kato to old Americana's Green Hornet.
We'll all be welcomed to live in their gigantic ghost cities someday soon.

This. China has a masculine, patriarchal culture which is what you need to be top dog. American culture is very feminized and feminized cultures don't produce the men necessary to sustain great civilizations. A culture that can't maintain its roads is in decline.

China is not like the West....

They have short term 5 year plans and then they have long term plans. You can't judge what China does in the past by what it will do in the future....

JinPing, a few years back, has changed China's long term goals to be more aggressive. Watch and see how they play chess in the China seas and surrounding areas as they widen their sphere of influence....

I agree with you. Yet, China has to change its stand on having limited child births. This will lead down the ugly road in which Japan is on now. No young people to work and to join the military. Just a country of middle aged and older people. Not good for a growing economy....

But what makes him so much better in China's eyes that Hu Jintao ? (the former leader before Xi) I think Hu was cooler than Xi is

What they forgot to tell you in the US media is that Taiwan claims are EXACTLY THE SAME as Mainland China's.

Hu was in effect Jiang Zemin's unwilling puppet. (Jiang was the president prior to Hu, and a very evil man. Jiang would even go to high level meetings and speak while Hu remained silent. Jiang was responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong and the organ harvesting scheme) Hu was not a strong president, he was more of an intellectual. Xi is a very action oriented man.

However, during Hu's office, Jiang was able to solidify his power structure in China, and he actually tried to overthrow Hu in order to put his own man in the President's seat, but the coup was a failure. He did not want Xi in as the president.

As soon as Xi got into office, he started taking down the old Jiang power structure by weakening the power of local Party officials and closing down the forced labor camps. Then he worked his way up to the higher officials and then the highest officials, hollowing out Jiang's power base through a widespread anti-corruption campaign.

Hu and his premier Wen just dropped out of sight as soon as Xi was elected, which was wise. They were both very rich and could retire in style.

The coup attempt was denied by China's top official sources at the time, but few western sources reported it then, except to quickly mention China's official line.

Western sources such as the NY Times are not touching the story even now, even though the coup was officially announced at the Party Congress on Thursday. Jiang still has powerful friends in the US and other places. You will notice that the NY Times was denied a seat to report on Xi's speech at the Congress the other day.

Here is what one paper said about the announcement.

Two-child policy is still too restrictive to stave off demographic time bomb

One of the big changes in China since President Xi Jinping took power five years ago is the ending of the notorious one-child policy, which was replaced by a two-child policy.

But this adjustment did not go far enough to drive the country’s fertility ratio to a healthy level – and to stave off its demographic time bomb. It’s time for Beijing to get rid of birth restrictions entirely, and to encourage Chinese to have bigger families.

According to the latest statistics from the National Health and Family Planning Commission, there were 7.4 million births in the first five months of this year – up 7.8 per cent from a year ago. More than half of the new babies were the second children of their parents.

But China’s birth rate continues to decline. In fact, the country is still at the edge of a population crash with a fertility ratio – the average number of children born per woman – of 1.3. That ratio needs to be at 2.1 to keep the population stable over the long run.

The two-child policy will not be enough to achieve such a ratio. Even if every family wants to have two children, the real ratio will be below 2. In the real world, a recent survey by the China Population Association found that 12.5 per cent of Chinese couples are infertile.
