Quoting: cosmicgypsy I somehow doubt that an only scraped out pumpkin will wow anyone....harhar. But I'm going to so be around to see what everyone else does... I mean, you HAVE seen Dace's Trumpkin and Chirt's Wrecking Ball, right?...I so love and laugh at that video every single time I watch it. They're so good, so creative. When my son was young I went all out at Halloween and Christmas with the decorating...my front porch was so scary one year there were kids that stopped in the street, looked, and then just kept on going.... But, naw, I'm going to live Halloween vicariously through the rest of youse guyses. 21 days to go, lots of time to build anticipation... Not talking about 'scrapers' for digging out the guts, but for detail. After the pumpkin is hollow, you can run a small nightlight or something inside of it and work in a dimly lit room. Instead of carving all the way through...you slowly scrape layers away from the outside.....deeper you go, the brighter it becomes. Cut all the way through for the brightest parts, but by scraping 1/2-3/4 through you can create different gradients of lighting....a 'lighted portrait' like the ones I did are basically negative sculptures.....they look like absolute shit in normal light and you can only see the effect in the dark. Example....one on right looks like crap but it looks great in the dark. That is amazing Dace. That kind of carving is beyond my abilities - waaaaay beyond. Amazing Dace! I like it! Might make a great song! deplorably republican |

Amazing what you can do with fondant. My daughter and I used to watch Cake Boss and one day I said, I can do it better and I can do it cleaner. Quit watching the tv show because the waste made me sick. The cake - used a bunt pan and the stem went into the hole. With left over cake and mixture of icing (what cake pops are made out of) I shaped around the face and laid the fondant over the whole mess and yes, it looked a mess. Then just smoothed and shaped it till viola a pumpkin!!! It actually tasted great too, pumpkin spiced cake, with cream cheese icing slightly flavored with cocoa. It was great fun and the teens and smaller kids loved it. Oh, the stem my son claimed all to himself. It is rice krispy treats!
