I remember, as a first grader, feeling (even if not yet understanding) an immense amount of well-being and pride when we got to stand up, put our hand over our heart and gaze in the direction of the beautiful red, white, and blue and recite the Pledge of Allegiance, in unity. This is how we started our school day back in 1974 in Capitan, New Mexico. We did this EVERY DAY and I am so appreciative that we did. It was like an early morning refreshing "face wash" to get you on track for the day. "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
