With the 11+ UV index whenever the sun shone here, it sure was a tough season. I did manage a bumper crop of S. Pole Beans & Peas. Bear Claw tomato was the superstar, and Sun Gold and Sunburst Cherry tomatoes a close 2'nd and 3'rd.

Cool and rainy until almost June, the peppers' production is now starting to peak. This next week of very warm & sunny weather is a life saver.

I grew a lot of Espelette peppers to avoid the $160/lb. price tag online. Inca Red Drops sold as Sweety Drop at $18/jar also produced well.

The heirloom "Rebel Yell" tomato outperformed the "Stump of the World", and the Blondkompfchen yellow cherries are still producing lots. Nevertheless, 1 Bear Claw in a 5 gallon bucket is 8 ft. tall and has produced 2 dozen 2 lb. + tomatoes, and is loaded again!!! That is my #1 pick for next season.

Just planted Kale, Tendergreen Mustard, and a huge salad mix. Starting Kale early guarantees me greens all winter, and a huge salad mix is beginning to germinate today. Just in time for the 70's expected in about 10 days.

I purchased genuine chocolate bhutlah seeds from a friend of the developer of that world's hottest strain. Checked on them this AM and they are getting HUGE. 2 to 2.5 million scoville units. Makes carolina reaper seem mild. This extra 2 weeks of 85-92 weather here are just the ticket!!!

Re: Official Late Summer GLP Gardener's Thread......Boom or Bust ?
both of my gardens (in and out) are doing great this year, except for the corn ...which got too much rain ...

seems to me that we are at least a full month behind - because my squash is just getting started ... and our usual hard freeze that comes by the second week of September - has not happened, which means our gardens may last til Dec ...WOOT!

I've been saying for over a year now, that the Earth has tilted... it was just confirmed by NASA, that it wasn't just "the Earth" but the entire Solar system that tilted, giving those of us who live in the norther states, and extra month long growing season.

Only thing that concerns me is that 70's were mentioned by my local Memphis TV forecaster in about 8-10 days. That darn near stops pepper production in it's tracks. And the season sure is running way late. Looks to me like a long, long extra cold winter is coming, too.

Yes everything late

Potatoes didn't produce much -did a lot better last year

Tomatillos just filling out

Squash did great - winters still on vine

Yellow cherry tomatoes did the best! First time planting

Other tomatoes not so much...

Celery going crazy - so funny - and they will winter over frost

Parsley, basil did well but cilantro did not

STEVIA!!!! My STAR this year!!! Dehydrated the leaves and I will have SWEETNESS for years!

What do you base your forecast on?

Farmer's almanac says long and COLD

Hope not

My gut feelings re: seasons/temps are always spot on. Long & cold this winter (Look at snows a month early out West). Preparing to reinstall with a new greenhouse cover and rewire the heater hi-limit thermostat.

I run 1 Pelonis heater which never shuts off completely, so an extra hi-limit thermostat in series saves big bucks!!! Never lose a thing with a Pelonis!

Re: Official Late Summer GLP Gardener's Thread......Boom or Bust ?
These threads used to get a lot of reports. I guess most people have had to go back to work lately to make ends meet.....little to no time for year round gardening. Would like reports from other regions, too. Well???????
