Pour water on a surface. Put a shop vac nozzle to the water in the middle. What happens to the water at the edge? There is no mystery. If this is just a normal phenomenon, then why are people so surprised? hurricanes don't come by everyday. powerful powerful storms. like a 400 mile wide tornado, sucking up water by the millions of tons. |

I think it's freaking people out because we've never heard of it. At least I know *I* haven't. So what you're saying is that ignorant people are afraid of what they don't understand? I'm shocked.. no really.. Do you know the exact number of people who have been in space? No? You're ignorant. If you are now hurrying to look it up just not to be ignorant anymore, you are stupid as well. |

(OP) User ID: 66629288 United States 09/10/2017 12:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This happens in Uruguay just 25 days ago: Quoting: peperiono 75373671 This was explained by winds (?) I think that someone are not telling all the true ... I feel confident that the Tampa Bay water was from wind push from the east to west. I don't know what the wind conditions were in Uruguay when that happened, but it might be. If you're curious, try to find some wind data for that day. I'd do it, but I'm about to get hit by Irma. Any other day, I'd look into it. I'm very interested to know what caused it. "Nothing is as far away as one minute ago." --Jim Bishop :gameizovar: It's DO:OM o'clock. WAKE UP! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 75495280 United States 09/10/2017 12:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, dummy. Hurricanes suck shit up, and move water, lots of water. During Hurricane Donna the Caloosahatchee river, which id's pretty damn big, was nearly bone-dry, you could walk across it. Which proves the phenomenon isn't unique to Irma. But apparently a hurricane has to be strong enough for the effect to materialize? . |

User ID: 56380478 United States 09/10/2017 12:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's called a blowtide. Look at the hurricane, see how it spins counter clockwise? Those winds are blowing the water. That's how storm surge is created. If the wind in blowing toward you, over water, the water rises, a surge. If they're blowing away, the water level drops... especially in shallow areas. Get over it or die mad. |
