I am very spiritual, I love my God and have my way of praising him...However, organized religion is the root to most of the issues since we have recorded history...Wars, biased laws and deaths all over the belief of ideas and words written by man intended to inflict fear of God instead of Love...

We were sent here with Free Will, to learn sin, to learn shame, to learn emotions...Earth, this physical life is the so called "hell"

Adam and Eve were cast out of "Paradise" to learn sin, they were not cast out of a garden on Earth, The Garden of Eden was "Heaven" it was the other side...They were sent to Earth because they wanted to learn wisdom that couldn't be taught but had to be experienced...On Earth, they felt shame, they felt emotions, they felt pain...

Organized religion became a way to rule by fear and make those rulers incredibly powerful and wealthy from the wallets of the believers...You can't change the mind of a believer if they are told that this is God's true way, you will go to "Hell", you will not be a good person, etc etc. IF you don't follow this and this and that you will be punished by X, Y or Z...That is not an all loving God, that is a controlling message meant to scare the hell out of people and make them obey.

Religion is man-made, God loves all and will not cast any of us away for utilizing the free will he gave us here to experience physical emotions. There would be a lot less hate in the world if we all got rid of these beliefs and dogmas and just started praising God our own way.

Religion is brain washing, no doubt. I don't know that it would cause damage, but it would cater to those that had emotional damage already.

A few days ago I was looking at my anti religious threads from back in the day getting close to 5 stars by tons of people, and I had the same thought. For some reason this site is overrun by cookie cutter sheep thinking people part of a religion/cult. Christians being the majority of them. My threads about forging your own path and thinking outside religious bounds would get 1-2 stars if they were posted these days.
