Anyone understand genetics? I have a question

im curious about genetic conditions and wondering if gene mutations are part of our evolution?

For example there are some genetic conditions which are hereditary and yet are very painful conditions, not pleasant to live with ..........but I'm noticing that people with this particular genetic condition seem to be seeking out others with the same condition, without even realising that is happening.

It makes me think although the condition is not great that there is a reason why this mutation is necessary for part of our evolution, otherwise why would people seek each other out......like it's trying to keep the mutation.....
