So you're an enlightened person but living and suffocating among religious psychos. What to do?

You must be asking for a friend, because you can't be too enlightened if you are downing other people's beliefs and thinking you are "enlightened".

Please ask yourself "Have I sufficiently listened to both sides, before forming my opinion on matters of debate?" If not, you might want to re-think your position.

Re: So you're an enlightened person but living and suffocating among religious psychos. What to do?
What bigD111 said basically. I dont know how old you are or who these people are or what your situation is but if you dont like being there or around these people then work hard to get out of that situation and become independent.

If I couldnt move out then it would depend how pushy these "psychos" got. First I would just make it abundantly clear and known to them that hey, we believe differently, please just respect that. If they were really mean and aggressive I might lay out cold hard truth about their religion which I have prepared and is undeniable. The history of how it was formed, blatant logical contradictions, falsities and moral abominations they dont know about or dont confront on a daily basis. I wont have to be mean about it. The truth will hit them plenty hard enough. And theyll probably leave you alone after that too knowing how informed and thus dangerous you are. Dangerous because they do not and can not have their ideology threatened. Its become the framework of their whole life. It literally sustains them and keeps them grounded in life even if its under a total delusion.

If theyre just regular friendly people but happen to be really religious, dogmatic and ignorant to a lot of things then Id react more accordingly. It really all depends. I might not do anything at all. This is something I think about pretty often, whether or not its good to or we should try to "enlighten" others or tell them theyre wrong and so forth, especially if their religion genuinely helps and comforts them. Were all on different paths. Personally, a lot of times I really get this feeling that its the wrong thing to try and "convert" others. Its just felt bad and wrong in the past when I exposed things about their religion I knew to be false. I dont know, if it makes them a better person and helps them maybe just let them be. Or if you do choose to want to "enlighten" them do so softly, find things relatable between yourselves and your views and plant seeds. Be gentle and make it a slow process. Really get their view on things and see what you might be able to learn yourself.

Lastly Id always question if you yourself are really "enlightened" and what it means to be so. Off personal experience what Ive thought myself to be "enlightened" in the past I would not consider to be so today. Always question your own beliefs as well. Always be a student, never a master.

the more enlightened you become the more you will notice negative thinking..............

just because you notice something as negative doesn't mean you have to let it effect you negatively..........

notice that you see religion for what it is and other people can see that......fine........allow them their path to discovery.........and you go on yours.....
