With current technology I would only have to charge my car once per month. And even though I'm extremely pro electric car... I'm still suspect of lithium batteries. I mean just look up videos of people's phones or vapes exploding... Fuck having that happen with a car load of them in my garage. RAGE |

A few weirdos will keep driving them but the sane majority will switch to electric sooner than most think. |

Why add that complexity to the electric car? |

Micro-turbines are multi-fuel so you can go alcohol, CNG, diesel (bio), gasoline, kerosene and propane. From a maintenance POV, turbines have only 1 moving part. Precision part but the rest of a hybrid system is modular and very efficient. |

Batteries have a life people and need to be replaced. At 10 years or about 144,000 miles. But Volvo is all like that will be around 7 years down the road for most people owning a car. by that time the cost of batteries will have dropped like a rock and never mind 7 years later again because in 7 years battery tech will be so good you will just need one set for the life of a car. Sorry but i can see most people not understanding the exponential developments that are starting right now. Solar used to be 3usd/w 7 years ago, now its 0.3usd/w so thats 10x less EXCLUDING inflation Same will happen with batteries once mass production is cranked up 100x compared to now which is exactly what is happening at the moment. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 47678081 United States 07/06/2017 03:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I recently bought a 2014 Volvo S60 Polestar....it is the last of the in-line V6's (and fucking fast as hell!)....which is exactly why I bought it. All their new cars are 4 cylinders and they are okay but I felt like I was driving a car with a turbo charged lawnmower engine in it and there is no way on earth I will ever buy one. I'm sure as hell not driving an electric car, so this news sorta hurts because I really like this car and Vovlo's. I guess this will be the last Volvo I will ever own because again, there's no fucking way I'm ever buying a 4 cylinder car or an electric car that isn't a Tesla. Sorry Volvo but you lose.....my business. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68797102 Good gasoline engines are becoming more scarce. Mercedes Benz is famous partly for its naturally aspirated V-8 engines. You can no longer buy a new MB with a naturally aspirated V-8, at least not in the USA. All little turbo units. Or at the top of the line, big turbocharged or supercharged units. So, might as well go with electric. Gasoline engines are getting worse, electric power is getting better. |
