That guy was not someone to admire. Sad and sick.

Layne Staley's story is sad indeed, but Layne was a kind soul. He'd often go to the store and buy several carts of groceries then call a taxi and have them deliver the items to homeless shelters and homeless people on the street.

Or PRINCE! I'm from Minneapolis, MN and I've loved Prince since 1980 when I got his and Andre Cymone's autographs for my 10th birthday. :) My mom worked with Andre's aunt Lillian in St. Paul.

Too bad someone stole my autographs in the mid-late 80's. Still bothers me very much.

Opeth and Korn both do a cover of 'Would', one of my favourite AIC tracks. And as good as the versions are, they don't have that wow factor that Layne had. Only one other comes to mind imo that was on that level in terms of singers, that's Dio.

Check this one out too... Brendan Maier of Facelift singing "Bleed The Freak". So many people have commented they thought this was a younger Layne singing BTF. This is phenomenal. Play both videos at the same time and you will be blown away! Even more impressive is that Brandan is carrying BOTH Layne and Jerry's sound at the same time, since Layne and Jerry harmonized in most of AIC's songs.

He does sound similar. He’s not as good a singer. But he’s good.

One thing that was great about Alice In Chains is that they used vocal harmonies. That was something that was lost over time in most rock music.
