TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN - Discuss the past, present and future of all things Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks returned to television on Sunday, May 21st. This thread is for those that are interested in discussing the series - what happened in the past on the show and the prequel movie, what is happening in the current new season, and thoughts about what it all might mean and what may be coming in the end.

As a HUGE fan of the original series - I was even present for some of the filming of the Fire Walk With Me movie - I am more than just a little thrilled with the best show EVER on television's return. Last night's premiere was spectacular.

IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN!

I am well versed in Twin Peaks for those that wish to have a serious discussion about any and all aspects of the show. I can answer most questions or can guide you to a better understanding of the show if you want. Or we can just discuss and debate some of the many things which - for now, anyways - have no solid answers.

Who?

Seriously - fuck Lara Flynn Boyle! She bailed over a quarter of a century ago from the series. Didn't even do the Fire Walk With Me movie. The character of Donna Hayward was needed for the movie. And Lara let everybody down by refusing to do it. No other cast member did this. Most would NEVER say no to David Lynch about anything. And for the record, Moira Kelly did a much better job at playing Donna Hayward. Much sexier, too.

So now, Twin Peaks is back and she's not needed anymore. Sorry, Lara, but you never bite the hand that feeds. And besides, Twin Peaks is certainly better off without you!

Anyone think I could be right in considering we might be heading into Stranger Things territory?

Last night's opening seems to have serious undertones that promise to take us on a GLP-worthy journey through the darker sides of quantum physical realms.

If true, this series could stay relevant forever! If not...it still promises to keep us on the edge of seats, with wheels turning on overdrive, waiting for Sunday nights to hurry back.

I'm uber excited!

Thanks to whoever pinned this. Though I suspect it might be you.

Esoteric Morgan is one of my Peaker friends on GLP. I've told her and a couple of other people that I talk to privately to message on this thread so that we can get a good discussion going about the show. And so those that don't know each other can meet here. You can't have too many Buddies - REAL Buddies - on GLP. Especially Peaker Buds.

So yes, other than comparing Twin Peaks with Stranger Things, I'd agree with your assessment. I've always known that there is a bigger picture. It's what caused the falling out between Lynch and Frost that resulted in Frost not being a part of Fire Walk With Me. Frost wanted to continue on with the story in the movie, but Lynch wanted to set the record straight as to what Twin Peaks was really about and also to stop sugar coating what had happened to Laura Palmer as opposed to the way that it was portrayed on television. Lynch is into the story. Not the plot. And certainly not the general television plodding plot. You don't always understand what you see. Or what he is showing you. Lynch doesn't like to explain how you got there and what it all means. You were NEVER supposed to find out who actually killed Laura Palmer. The network forced him to reveal the killer. Lynch takes you to the part of the story that you need to see and says, "isn't it wonderful and strange"? And you say, "yes, David, but what does it mean"? And he answers, "isn't it wonderful and strange"?

There is a story. You betcha! It's coming out now. And it's a DEEP one. But it is coming from one of the only TRUE artists of our generation and one of the only artists to try and use television as a medium. You HAVE to look at Twin Peaks - or any Lynch movie - that way to truly understand it. Or begin to learn HOW to understand it.

Morgan, you also mentioned something about the "glass box portal thing" in the message that you sent me. Care to open a discussion up about that yet?

IMPORTANT: Please do not discuss anything about Parts 3 and 4 which will be airing next Sunday. They have been released to some On Demand services already, but not everyone has that available to watch. Both are set to air next Sunday night and will be fair game to discuss after that. THANKS!

An artsy but enjoyable mindfuck mystery.

Most characters in Lynch's shows/movies he writes them to personify an aspect of the psyche or emotion......one character represents the Id, another the ego, another aggression, another remorse, another curiosity, etc.

A lot of it probably only makes sense in his own mind, but he puts his weird ass visions out there and leaves them for us to interpret.

Truly. As is Ray Wise. I have met both - Ray at a breakfast and Everett as he was waiting to film his Missing Pieces scene for Fire Walk With Me. Both are sweet and gentle men. Ray is a big fan of the show. I guarantee you that he was on the edge of his seat last night watching the premiere like the rest of us. Everett was great. The first thing he did as he extended his hand to greet me was to warn me not to get too close to him because they had just smeared some extra oil all over his overalls - he was dressed in character - which you could literally smell. Talk about realism...

It's so good to see her on the show in her final months.

The Log Lady plays a VERY important role on the show. Her story has never fully been told. Whether or not it will be now is still left to be seen. I have no idea. But her connection to the story of Twin Peaks begins when she is a little girl. And also involves another Twin Peaks character. Though one that you wouldn't expect.

I'd better stop there for now. Besides, all I can currently think about is Audrey Horne...

Re: TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN - Discuss the past, present and future of all things Twin Peaks
Happy to see that you made this thread OP. I'm a ridiculously huge fan of Twin Peaks and David Lynch and have been looking forward to this since it was announced. I haven't looked forward to something this much in so long.

I'm especially pumped that David Lynch directed every single episode while each episode was also written by both David Lynch and Mark Frost. They have so much more creative control over this project than they did with the original with ABC.

This is going to be phenomenal.

Plus, Angelo Badalamenti is back with the scoring/composition/music for the series again and he is absolutely fantastic. Him and Lynch are one of the greatest Filmmaker/composer combinations in film history (so much great work together.)

Also, Peter Deming is the DOP/cinematographer for every episode as well and he is fantastic. Him and Lynch have done great work together.

Not to mention much of the fantastic cast members returning as well as many other great actors joining in!

So pumped!

Twin Peaks is chalked full of absolutely fascinating concepts on many many many different levels. So much going on. May be more relevant to our actual reality than most realize.

Thanks for the thread. Just watched episodes 1-3 last night and yeah, let's just say that the little sleep I did get I had some fucking crazy dreams!

I don't think it's really even fair to call DL a film/tv show director, nor do I think it's fair to call his work "movies" or "shows." This shit last night really transcended beyond "entertainment" and entered a whole new realm and dimension of insanity...and maybe brute REALITY.

The new Twin Peaks is as close to the other dimensions/afterlife/heaven/hell that we have been allowed to see on a TV screen. Only in our dreams, nightmares, death, and trips have we encountered these places.

On a side note, I was just out in North Bend, WA and Snoqualmie where a lot of this show was/is filmed and checked out some of the locales.

What an ignorant and inhuman comment.

First of all, Lara Flynn Boyle's altered appearance is mostly the result of a serious medical condition that she's been battling for some time - not just the cosmetic procedures that she's had done. Instead of being such a jerk, how about showing some sympathy?

After all, we're talking about an actual human being, here - not just some inanimate object that appears in shows and films for your pleasure. Seriously; have some decency.

Furthermore, she suffered some pretty traumatic experiences, while trying to navigate Hollywood as a young woman. She was only a teenager when she was cast in "Twin Peaks", for god's sake, and she'd had a very difficult childhood, as well. Add in all of the Hollywood manipulation, brainwashing and such...and it's no wonder she had a difficult and challenging path, which affected her career choices.

You don't have any personal knowledge as to what went on behind the scenes of "Twin Peaks", either.

I would think that someone who is posting on a conspiracy forum would at least be intelligent and informed enough to know about the horrible things that occur in the film industry.

By the way, Kyle MacLachlan also refused to play his full role in "Fire Walk With Me" - something which seriously changed the entire course of the film - so you're wrong about LFB being the only one to do such a thing. Also, a few of the other actors refused to appear in this new season of "Twin Peaks", too.

For someone who is claiming to be a "HUGE fan", you don't seem to know what you're talking about, honestly.
