For as divisive as the replys to any thread can get here I'm shocked it seems pretty unanimous that ducks are awesome and are really missed when they go. Sorry you lost your friend. |

You see.. since Quakers was removed from Duck stuff and became part of the Human family... Quakers most likely found his little "i am".. and separated from duck group soul and became an individuated animal. If true.. and this is the usual.. Quakers will be reincarnated into a higher than duck animal such as a cat or dog.. in which the human contact will continue. After a few incarnations.. Quakers may then start the human journey. There are angels who assist in this process. So be in peace.. because Quakers became an individual being because of your rescue and providing the human experience beyond duck experience. This should thrilll you to know to contributed to the forming of a new individual. When an animal realizes it is separate from others.. its MIND is bounced in Krypton rather than dissipating at death.. and the I AM journey begins. Quakers will need more of that experience to grow more before starting the human journey. This is how evolution works. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 42166642 United States 05/19/2017 05:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Teared up reading that... really sucks to lose a pet. I never had a pet duck but I rescued a lone duck that somehow (I have no idea how) ended up in my neighborhood pond. One day I was just walking by and it was quacking really loudly nonstop for some reason as if it needed something while swimming around the pond. I thought maybe it needs food so I brought back a bag of peas and called it over, holding some out in my hand. It slowly walked to me and came out of the water onto the grass. She was very hesitant to come all the way to me so I stayed very still/relaxed and calmed her with my voice. Had to throw some on the ground first so she understood I'm just trying to feed her and can be trusted. She ate the entire bag of peas (regular sized zip-lock bag) right out of my hand, a handful at a time. Came back often w/ more peas to see and feed/pet her. That first day she wouldn't let me pet her but the second day warmed up to it and let me pet her very lightly. One day she was gone. I couldn't find her anywhere around the area and she was ALWAYS in the area normally. Naturally I was very worried. I stopped someone who was holding a small box-like thing and asked if they have seen a duck around. Turns out they had the duck in that box and were going to take it to a different place, another pond where other ducks live. They gave me the box because I knew of a shelter that takes in ducks (I had already been planning to take her there when the weather starts getting too harsh) and I brought her there. That shelter is where she has lived ever since with many other duck companions. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74917579 United Kingdom 05/19/2017 05:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My duck, Quackers, died this morning, just short of her 14th birthday. She was the only licensed duck in the city of Hammond,Indiana, having been grandfathered in when the ordinance against owning fowl was implemented years ago. She is also in the history books for being a write-in candidate during the last mayoral election. Quoting: tiger1 Quackers was a Mallard duck, rescued by me when she was 3 days old, on July 4th 2003. My husband and I were fishing at Wolf Lake Channel, when I heard a baby duck screaming about a couple of hundred feet from where I was fishing. I dropped my pole and ran over to where the sound was coming from. There was this 3 day old duckling, screaming, next to the body of her dead mother, who had been killed by a predator. There were no other ducklings around, and I assume the predator that killed the mother probably killed and ate them. I scooped her up, put our gear away, and took Quackers home. I had 2 different Vets look at her injured wing, but there was nothing they could do, and she would never be able to fly. I assume the predator had damaged her wing. So, she became a house duck, since she would never be able to be released back into the wild. She was my youngest daughters constant companion, and my "Baby Ducky". She had her own little pond we installed in the yard for her. She had partial run of the house, too. She followed me around like a puppy dog. She was sweet, and very affectionate. She loved to be held on my lap, and be petted like you would a cat or a dog. When she was running around, whether it was in the house, or my yard, I just had to look at her and say "are you mommy's baby ducky?", and she would lay flat on the ground, cheep like a duckling, and want me to hold her and pet her. She also gave hugs, where she would drape her neck over my neck. Last night, when she was starting to go down, she gave me 2 hugs. I was getting ready early this morning to take her to the Vet, to see if there was anything they could do for her, but she passed away while I was getting ready to go. Yeah, I am crying my eyes out right now, and have been since last night. Quackers was given much love, and she gave total love in return. She is so missed. What a beautiful and sad story. You gave that baby duck a wonderful love filled life after it lost its mother...what a wonderful act and something or somebody meant for you to be there that day. You WILL meet her again in a beautiful heavenly place. She will be waiting for you with her mother and siblings to welcome you to paradise. Be strong and thank you for sharing such a heartwarming story. God bless. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 72355262 United States 05/19/2017 05:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Awe OP, I'm so sorry! I had a pet mallard duck too. I stole the egg from a neighbor farm and put it under a reading light until it hatched. "Daffy" thought I was her mommy. She followed me everywhere. All over the neighborhood everyone knew her! And she laid and egg every night. I loved Daffy so much. Daffy only lived for 3 years. A neighbor's dog killed her. I was devastated. It was a long time ago, but I still miss her and your story made me think of Daffy and cry. You had Quackers for such a long time! What a great accomplishment on your part. It's not going to be easy, this kind of pain never completely goes away, but it will get easier. Take solace in the fact that Quackers had a better and longer life than most any mallard on the face of this earth because of YOU! God bless...maybe ducks go to heaven too? Let's hope so. Peace |

Thank you for caring about that helpless bird that surely would have perished had you not rescued her. But do not grieve... Mallards only live 5-10 years in the wild. At nearly 14, and having been happy and loved her entire life, that bird had a better and a longer life than she ever would have had otherwise. Death comes to us all. Miss Quackers had a wonderful life. Be joyous in that. |
