When you present a story without proof it's nothing more than just a story and is to be taken with a grain of sand the size of my truck!!! 1* 1) OF COURSE THERE'S NO PROOF! Why would the curator announce that the most PRECIOUS statue on EARTH was destroyed!?!? 2) My best friend, teacher and mentor was once second to the Grand Commander, the highest ranking Mason in the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction. He stepped down due to evil, demonic, federal infiltration of the counsel. I am not sure if David's curator is still in the Supreme Council. He is a very dear friend of my mentor. 3) New technology was used to fuse the rubble back together and David is now 100%. 4) The best shamans in the world were summoned to transfer the ACTUAL SOUL OF DAVID from the original fallen David to the new David. 5) This is what Michaelangelo would've wanted. For all we know, he still walks the Earth and assisted in the process. Please let me know if you have any questions. I asked my mentor if he'd put me in contact with the curator of the museum. Anonymous Coward User ID: 73598089 Canada 05/10/2017 12:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP is possibly correct. Michaelangelo's 'David' statue is in danger of collapsing due to its weak ankles and the structure's great weight, scientists have confirmed following new tests. The famous sculpture of the boy warrior is housed in Florence's Galleria dell'Accademia. [link to www.rt.com (secure)] Micro-fractures are visible on the left ankle and the carved tree stump, which threaten the whole stability of the structure. The cracks have been blamed on the poor quality of the marble used and because the 5.5 ton statue leaned at an angle for more than a century... If it did topple it would shatter into a thousand pieces, I think. Maybe it has. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 8080014 United States 05/10/2017 12:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP: until you can furnish proof beyond your own wild ravings, I'll call BULLSHIT on your claims. Here's some history of the piece you only THINK you know about: In 2003-4 the DAVID was given a thorough curated cleaning - the first in over 122 years. Before they began, a team of 170 specialists microscopically examined every square inch of that marble -including X-rays to reveal any inherant weaknesses the stone may have hidden for the past 500 years. NONE were found that posed a serious threat to its safety! Here's why: Before Michaelangelo would ever take up his chisel, he would first examine his stone -sometimes for months- inspecting for flaws that would effect his artistry before, during and after his work. He would tap the blocks with small mallets, his trained stonecutter's ear tuned to the ring of purity. He would pour water over the stone to watch where it seeped below the surface to reveal hidden fissures. He found none. In this stone, the greatest flaw was another artist. The stone used for the DAVID was commonly called the "Duccio Column" after sculptor Agostino diDuccio, who used the 17-ft piece of Carrara to begin a marble version of his earlier terra-cotta sculpture of Hercules; but, he gouged too deeply into the lower center of the stone and for the next 40 years all artists -until Michaelangelo- considered the marble totally ruined. Ever wonder why the DAVID's body is twisted at the hips, inclining toward the right with the shoulders thrust back? That's how Michaelangelo had to pose the figure to compensate for the deep gouge and to maintain not only an artistic balance but an engineering one, as well: without that subtle shift of weight, the legs and ankles of the statue could never support the top-heavy mass above.... the tree stump behind DAVID's left leg also serves as a brace. When the statue was placed in the Piazza Signoria in Sept 1504 protestors [acolytes of the deposed Fr. Savaronola - a fanatical Priest who decried most artwork as heretical]stoned it as being obscene. In 1512, lightening struck the pedestal, but caused little damage other than severe scorching. DAVID's right arm was broken during a wild riot in 1527 when a bench was thrown from a window above. The arm stayed broken off for 16 years. In 1843, "restorers" cleaned the surface with Hydrochloric Acid and destroyed the protective finish that Michaelangelo had buffed into the surface over 300 years before - the same surface that had survived God's storms, blistering heatwaves, blizzards and anything that man himself could test against it. You can still see the scratches their wire brushes made in their botched attempt of restoration. The statue still remained outdoors for another 30 years before the Galleria dell' Accademia was built for it's permanent home. When the Il'Gigante was finally moved in 1873 a full, detailed casting was taken by the Antonini family - specializing in casting works for bronzes, they were simply the finest craftmen in Italy. The family retained the reproduction rights of their moulds and they have remained the only source for authentic copies. Even today the Antonini's retain that original mould, but since 1843 only allow castings to be taken every 85 years! In my collection, I have direct-casts from those originals of DAVID's face and right hand taken just before the moulds were again withdrawn - no more castings will be allowed until 2075! I was VERY lucky to get mine! Let me tell you: it is utterly humbling to feel under DAVID's curled fingers and feel the deep marks Michaelangelo's chisels made; totally hidden from view [and inaccessable to Galleria visitors] they provide mute testament to the Maestro's sheer genius at age 26 when he began his masterpiece. Once it was moved indoors, it still wasn't safe. In 1991 a deranged painter attacked the statue with a hammer, shattering the second toe of the left foot. Restorers were able to identify microscopic bits and discovered that the DAVID's marble was originally quarried from Miseglia. Under much protest, that toe was repaired using the broken chips, matching marble dust and resin. At the same same, resin was carefully injected into any surface fissures for added protection agianst erosion and to add structural integrity. After the cleaning of 2003-4 the DAVID was also studied to insulate it against excessive vibrations within the Accademia. This concept was abandoned since massive restructuring of the Galleria foundation would have been involved, with the DAVID removed from public view for several years. Instead, viewing hours were reduced to cut the volume of potentially-damaging foot-traffic. I do NOT believe this work that has endured for over 500 years would suddenly "collapse" and have personally been unable to verify any dates when the Accademia was closed long enough to replace the original with a copy... and, BTW: such a move could NOT be accomplished "overnight"! SO: until you -as the OP- can positively confirm same, I'm calling a very loud, Florentinian.... |
