Quoting: Widge It appeared they had refueling nozzle attached on port side as they flew over me after takeoff. Warthogs don't have refuelling ports on either side of the aircraft. Their refuelling probe is midline, right in front of the pilot. If you're talking about the A-6, the Navy uses a varaiation for tanker duty, but they don't have a "nozzle on the port side," they have a drogue hose that runs out of the back of the aircraft. Did you maybe see an EA6B Prowler? It's a variation of the A6, and you can tell them by the gold tint of the canopy. It's actually gold lined to protect the crew from the radiation of RF. For that reason, on the ship, we called them "Queens." As for A10s in Illinois, that's a ground support platform. I checked, and there aren't any AFR A10 squadrons based in the state. There IS an air-refuelling squadron near Belleville. Did you maybe see KC135s? They are pretty much Boeing 707s with the seats taken out and huge fuel tanks installed. A drogue comes out of the tail to refuel aircraft. I had an orientation flight on one, back in the day, and watched out the back as they refuelled a B52 in-flight. That was breathtaking.
