I've been listening to the channel for the last 2 days off and on, and earlier today until about 1:30 PM est. and did not hear or see any of this. WTF???

I have used that site to monitor 8992 during periods of potential doom for the past few years and, yeah, never heard or seen anything like that before.

If you hear Skyking, skyking do not answer and it is repeated over 2 times it is probably orders for the airforce units (under 2 times it is usually a test)

I'm in Jacksonville,FL and all I've heard for hours now is military jets and helis every few min.

29B6, nicknamed 'Контейне&#10​88;' (Kontayner), is a Russian over the horizon radar. It is currently very active in Europe. The radar uses 150 antenna masts with data transmission systems, transmitters and receivers, a power station and control buildings. It is able to detect both high altitude and low altitude aircraft and missiles at very long ranges.

The first 29B6 radar installation is based at Kolkino radar station. The receiving antennas are located 8 km south-west from Kovylkino, Mordovia, Russia 53.9841°N 43.8427°E. The transmitters antennas are located 300 km from receiver, 5 km north from Gorodets town, Nizhegorodskaya oblast', Russia 56.69328°N 43.48625°E.

29B6 commonly uses 50 sweeps/sec (max range 3000 km), but it has been seen with 25 sweeps/sec (max range 6000 km) and 100 sweeps/sec (max range 1500 km). 29B6 uses Frequency Modulation On Pulse (FMOP), unique among OTH Radars since they tend to use Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW).

This is a "new" Russian HF Over The Horizon Radar (OTHR), 29B6 Container (also spelled "Kontainer" and "Kontayner", or " Контейне&#108​8; "). It has been seen off and on for a bit more than a year, but did not appear to be in a really operational state until the last week of August. Prior to the last weekend in August, 2013, it had only been operational during the week and during "normal" working hours. Since that time it has been in near 24 hour a day operation. It may have been pushed into service by the Syrian issue.

The radar uses an interesting and uncommon (for HF radars) waveform. The signal is LFM, as many HF OTHRs are, but instead of being LFMCW it has a short chirp time and then a long blank time, or FMOP (Frequency Modulation On Pulse). The sounder has a similar waveform with a longer dead time. The sounder also has a slower rep rate, at 10 Hz (the radar has used 50 Hz every time I have seen it so far).

There has been mention on the web of the return of the old Russian Woodpecker. The sounder associated with this radar is very likely the cause of this rumor. Its 10 Hz rate sounds similar to the old Russian Woodpecker, but the system is totally different in application and actual bandwidth occupied.

This recording was made on a remote Perseus SDR in Europe, on September 8, 2013, starting about 1631 UTC. The radar could be received at my location in the Mojave Desert, California, USA, but was much stronger in Europe.
