Quoting: Zen & Zi I think there's a lot more to this than "I want to spend more time with my family" bullshit. Frustrating! Agreed. This sucks losing him. He was one of the few that speaks with common sense and destroys wasters of resources. (Shit comes of it but, it's ok to watch on YT) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58684934 Its all almost over anyways. _kevin Actually, now is the time to buckle down and get to work. The republicans have The White House, and a majority in The Senate and Congress. ********* "In November 2014, Chaffetz won a four-way race to become the chairman of the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. He was only the fifth Member of Congress in 89 years to become a full chairman after just three terms.[65] He ran on a promise to emphasize reform, telling Politico that "the pitch I made to the steering committee is we really have to triangulate the problem if we're actually going to get to reform. In order to fix the problem long term, we can't just be the highlighter pen. We do a good job highlighting things, but we don't do a great job of fixing things." [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] ********* So, now that he actually has the opportunity to fix things and help drain the swamp as the Chairman of The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, he walks. Makes no sense, unless he was just playing us all along - or someone got to him. politicians say what they need to say to get elected, they make promises they have no intention of keeping. Or they can't because of the deep state or whatever. |

(OP) User ID: 74550956 United States 04/19/2017 07:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Good on him! He is going to do what the forefathers wanted politicians to do - go home! Quoting: John Donson 72355092 I fully agree with term limits, but for EVERYONE. With all these entrenched lifers enriching themselves in D.C., there's very little opportunity for a junior congressman to make a huge difference in anything. Except for the very rare situation that Chaffetz finds himself in right now - the R's unexpectedly holding the majority and the White House. If he was serious about fixing things, it's a bad time to walk away. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” ~Seneca You can lead the Democrats to knowledge, but you can't make them think. |

User ID: 73316485 United States 04/19/2017 07:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | He was the only Congressman who didn't use the allotted money for a D.C. Residence. He slept on a cot in his office and used the shower in the House gym. Considering how much largesse the Congress allots itself from our money, I'd say that's the politician you want managing the budget. I always liked when he had some poor Gov rep. who got thrown under the bus to be the one to face Congress and he'd start with the most basic of foundation questions and they'd be afraid to say the obvious answer, and he'd be real nice and say "the answer is yes, it's not a trick". Yeah, he was pretty cool for a while. I guess that's why this is so disappointing. That, and the fact that he was probably the most vocal in Congress about going after Killary. He was outstanding in the Comey hearings. Then the waffling on Trump and it went down hill from there. Maybe Killary's clan got to him. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” ~Seneca You can lead the Democrats to knowledge, but you can't make them think. |

The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object. ~ Thomas Jefferson, Inaugural Address, 1801 It is not only vain, but wicked, in a legislator to frame laws in opposition to the laws of nature, and to arm them with the terrors of death. This is truly creating crimes in order to punish them. ~ Thomas Jefferson, 1779 |
