WE have EXPERTS on alien life.

The reason this is an important discovery is bio matter is the critical building blocks needed of our present day society.


The actual significance is what we can mine from extra terrestrial planets to make future space exploration possible. We can't keep going back and forth to earth assuming that there are closer places to refuel in terms of food sources water and air.
Without finding adequate planets with resources available to utilize we are stuck here. As we can't simply fly out and run out of food. As that isn't progress in terms of life outside our solar system.

So finding these resources is exactly what we need to do as humans too extend our reach on future missions. Every single element and molecule is important to us as a nation; so while this may not be a being of intellect. The discovery leads us to having a more likely future in which we will be able to pursue that final accomplishment. Not to mention the more missions and productive we are the more likely it is that we will be discovered here on our own planet. (by those very society's).

So even if we only find mold. Its important because we can forge some water from it. Or make new antibiotics, or even air, or a food supply.

It also proves earth is not the only planet with life on it. Which imo is a pretty vast in your face to religions with the we are alone philosophy-
