There are localized EMP attacks as well, that can target a specific location.

FACT, An EMP attack shall WIPE all the data stored on those BIOS chips etc that control devices. As ALL bits get restored to 0.

I suggest getting a custom made LEAD box, for that external storage solution connected to your PC.

If it's NOT surrounded by LEAD it shall be wiped.

If you're a full on survivalist, you'd do this for your CB radio and ANY other electronics that use Microchips. ;)

Yes indeed. I would have mentioned it, but the thread was originally made bc of the winkelvoss decision.

Good thing to have, that.

Not a bad idea for that one disk/card/paper/whatever form of storage is chosen to hold the majority of coin. The savings account, if you will.

Aye that would be ideal I suppose. But do I trust myself to remember those words, as written, in order? Even with the mnemonic trick... I dunno... kinda scary.

I personally encrypt my wallet with a password that I have neither written nor typed, in all of history, except into a locally-stored wallet. I realize your method is technically more secure at this point in time, I just think I'm secure enough for now.

Re: THE BITCOIN IS STRONG
You could also hide them in a poem.

An encrypted wallet is as secure as you are with the phrase...

It seems like hardware wallets and brainwallets are most secure. Coinbase is insured and their vault feature is very well thought out.

Perhaps more important than wallet security is not keeping them in one place...

Re: THE BITCOIN IS STRONG
double post.

I would think word passwords you suggested would actually be stronger than encryption via password... for each word chosen, there are far more possibilities for the choice of the word than there are possibilities for each character of a password

You can also further secure mnemonic seeds with a "25th word" of your choosing. Even if someone deciphered your poem or found the written seed, they would still need your passphrase.

Denied Winkelvoss ETF today.

Does bitcoin seem to care much?

Nah...

Can't say the same for so many of the analysts.

look how fast bit coin rebounded after RTF was rejected.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59938998

yes, and the reason for rejection is a clear strength not a weakness.

Rejection occurred because the market can not be controlled . Control is necessary to stop/close market exchanges given a free fall in order to minimize investor losses. Given that bitcoin is free/open and global, there is absolutely no way for the SEC to achieve control and thus the truly free market will do what it does.

Agreed. But not at the expense of bitcoin at this particular point. They are still symbiotic with each other... they each help the other by existing and prospering more than hurt. Right now the name of the game is getting people into cryptocurrencies in general, just get that money in there first, worry about the details later. Bitcoin's the gateway for most.

Goodluck with that. not with the infrastructure that is already in place and crazy amounts more in the future. I bought my bitcoin from a bitcoin ATM in a local coffee shop. people dont invest in that shit unless its going main stream big boy. bitcoin at 20 is like saying silver at $1
have a couple and treat it like a lotto ticket. buy and forget for 10 years.
