Breaking: Oroville Dam Spillway (Live Feed) | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 73708931 United States 02/19/2017 04:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Something looks very suspicious. A few days ago I saw a photo of the damage of the spillway and the damage went all the way across the spillway where the big hole is. In that video the damage did not go all the way across. That looks like it was 4 or 5 days ago when the damage was 2/3rd the way across. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73967378 Something very fishy about that video stream. . Could be why they cut it. Had the wrong stream up? . |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 74114401 United Kingdom 02/19/2017 04:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The flood situation though serious still appears to be under reasonable control, the dam and overflow surely working as expected and designed. A lot of flood water is overflowing, eroding and washing away a lot of lose material top / subsoil / debris, which must be causing more problems further downstream in and around flood plains - whether developed or not. The real scare is if the concrete lets go of the bedrock below it was built on or whether the water level continues to increase. The dam could easily remain standing and just act as a weir to a higher flow of water. The water needs to escape onto and the energy and debris needs to dissipate over undeveloped flood plains. The folly was building on flood plains and funnelling / managing river banks. seems under seems au |

[link to fm.cnbc.com] If you look at the live video on page 1 you'll see there are 2 holes. The original one from the beginning goes all the way across and is pretty much at the middle of the spillway. The smaller hole that takes up half of the SW is closer to the bottom of the spillway. |

I think the damage you see on the cam is newer damage further down the spillway. Ts just getting worse |

It is and that has been obviously for the way spray has worked. For DAYS on end now. Only reason you can now SEE is they cut the outflow substantially. |

If you are from there I assume that is why you are init. Otherwise its a past life memory you were in. |

I'll look for more coverage but, for now, live link: Quoting: YanceyDoodleDandy Uh, what's different? How is this feed different than what we saw last week? Looks like the same busted MS we saw last week. NO ITS WAY MORE BUSTED THAN THE ORIGINAL PIC WHERE THE BUSTING WENT ALL the way ACROSS. This is more washout well below that and as you can seen down there near the end.. some of it is still intact on one side. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73863651 Yep, looked like bedrock a few days ago. The fact that gold is panned from the river below means it's very old bedrock probably metamorphic variety. The ramp is very long and only looks short from that angle. There's a massive solid rock hillside behind the ramp that I'm pretty sure is not going anywhere. It's the man-made portion along the rim that people need to worry about not the hillside behind a thin concrete ramp. |

LINK POSTING TODAY, Doug in Oroville -- [link to doomerdoug.wordpress.com (secure)] The main highway/freeway is I-5 and over it comes the tens of thousands of trucks that supply the “I-5 Corridor.” The rail lines are also linked to the I-5 corridor and carry every thing the entire coastal PNW, Portland, Seattle need. You do have options, 101 Coastal Highway, 395 through Eastern Oregon, but they are not credible for mass truck transit. [link to doomerdoug.wordpress.com (secure)] |
