Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed I read that the capacity of the river outlet valves is dependent on the reservoir elevation. Quoting: Crunch62 We have seen the outflow drop from 3,000 CFS to 2,800 CFS over the past few days. Outflow is now down to 2,200 CFS. River release is down from 1,500 to 1,300 CFS. Gurgling like a bathtub drain. IT IS GOING BELOW 1300 CRUNCH..NOT MUCH LEFT TO GHURGHLE.... THEY KEEP LOWERING IT TO MAKE IT 'LOOK' LIKE THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING...IT'S JUST RUNNING DRY...UH! Yeah I see the river release is scheduled for 1,250. We'll see it diminish further. Meanwhile, the clay brick is drying out and shrinking. It is gonna be a real clusterfuck when that thing lets go. I should be safe here. Just a spectator. What do you mean by clay brick? Are you talking about the core of the dam? Thanks. |

Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed Outflow 2,213 CFS. River Release 1,270 CFS. Meaning 950 CFS is still going to the local rice farmers, including Congressman Doug La Malfa. La Malfa's ranch is literally right across the highway from the Thermalito Afterbay's ag outlet. I should be safe here. Just a spectator. What do you mean by clay brick? Are you talking about the core of the dam? Thanks. Yes, the 'impervious core' of the dam. It is comprised of red clay soil and crushed rock from the dredger tailings that are ubiquitous around the Oroville area. When red clay dries, it shrinks and cracks. When it gets wet, it swells and turns into gumbo. It is known as an 'expansive soil' and not suitable for building on, because it moves around depending on changes in moisture. Our local school district was building a new school back around 2005. The engineers demanded the red clay soil under the building foundations be removed and non-expansive soil to be brought in to replace it. This elevated the cost and extended the timeline for building the school. But they had their reasons. Red clay is not a suitable foundation soil, BECAUSE IT MOVES. Yet, some fools in the 1960s built the Nation's tallest dam using red clay soil. What the Hell?... |

Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed Ironically, black basalt rock is a product of the quarry just to the west of Lake Oroville. People buy it for their driveways, but it is sharp and hell on tires. Like little arrowheads. Last Edited by Crunch62 on 08/22/2021 11:53 PM What the Hell?... |

Sounds like it hit them so fast they didn't know it was coming. Record breaking rains. Weird wild weather is warming up. Hope you folks are ok. That dam gets hit with rains like TN, I truly fear the outcome. misty |

Check out all the storms popping on todays map. Tropics are HOT. A real nasty strong tropical cyclone will likely hit US soil before November. Check out the midwest (IL, MO and AR) right at the end of this time-lapse. The middle of the country is set for above normal temperature heat and more severe thunderstorms .. helluva year so far! https://imgur.com/6BzTjmP [link to cdn.star.nesdis.noaa.gov (secure)] |

Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed I wish we could see some of that TN rain here. It is so dry outside, everything is tinder. I am afraid to fart, lest it start another fire. We will see the Lake Oroville outflow drop even more in the next few days. Lower elevation means less pressure and volume through those river valves. UH! and you know what I mean. Last Edited by Crunch62 on 08/23/2021 07:00 PM What the Hell?... |

Shasta is always releasing water to keep the salinity barrier in the delta correct. The leaders in California do not believe the Earth can heal herself. Shasta lake will dry up someday soon.
