DAMNED SHAME WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT DAM.

WHAT?

NOTHING?

YOU MEAN GLP HAD A 7K THREAD AND IT WAS ALL BULLSHIT?

IS THAT POSSIBLE?

ME TEL U.

Time will tell.

When the wet spot halfway down the main spillway returns as the elevation rises, we will know.

When DWR exhausts every option (again) to avoid using the 'new' main spillway, we will know.

When the reservoir is full and the main gate structure experiences a massive failure (remember Folsom Dam?...same gate design) we will know.

For now, DWR continues to hide behind 'Homeland Security' to conceal the flaws and deficiencies of this structure from the public. Oroville Dam is a ticking bomb.

I had another dream about last where there was a lot more seepage in suspected places and other places and then it began to vibrate too much.

SQUAAAWWKK!

Seepy analysis make me cry - it retarded MODEL!

Why they pay for this? Hello. Chinaman can say to you: dangerous slip is on behind side of Oroville dam while level change during low reservoir. Like right now. Squak!

Forget dam full. OK design for that besides fake seep model.

Danger of clamshell scoop out failure middle back of dam. Worse possible if earthquake now. Imagine intake crush and bury. Now what to do to drain and fix? Sorry trombone noise!

Yes open spillway if water go that high, but slump failure and water eat away at behind. Natural spring weak area even worse. Oh noes! You need lower hurry? Better get plenty hose. DWR big on suck.

The water has to flow to So Cal.

Clean cars and full swimming pools.
They drain the lakes in the north, so that the reservoirs in the south can be full.

Fluctuating reservoir levels behind earth fill dams are not a good thing. But CA doesn't care. None of the elite live around here.
What the Hell?...

Wasn't California really dry last winter and haven't they been dry so far this year?
I'd be more worried about wildfires in California next season than the dam breaking unless of course this winter really changes around.
Of course the dam could be in trouble sometime in the future if a winter like 2016-17 or even worse like 1861-62 were to happen.
From what I heard Los Angeles saw over 60 inches of rain in the winter of 1861-62.
That's probably about what Eureka averages.
Just imagine how much northern California probably got that winter.

It was pretty dry last season. Dry so far this season. I think we are at less than 2" of rain heading into December.

The seasonal average here is 30". In the 2017 season, we received nearly 50".

I am sure there is still gold to be found here. The problem is that all of the 'easy' gold was found in the gold rush days. In the decades afterward, dredging the rivers resulted in harvesting most of the 'less than easy' gold.

The gold dredges on the Feather River near Oroville produced piles of tailings that are still present today. Think round river rock, from 4 to 8 inches in diameter, piled 6 feet high. Thousands of acres are still piled high with this stuff today. The location of the new WalMart 'SuperStore' was such a site. Rock mills were set up onsite to produce the aggregate for the construction of the store and parking lot.

There was likely gold in that mix.

The little burg where I live, about 12-15 miles south of Oroville was a happening place in the gold rush days. The population here exceeded that of Oroville. It is a floodplain, meaning that here is where the gold ended up after washing out of the Sierra. Is there still gold here?

Absolutely. Although not easy to find. A few years ago, a man found a huge nugget here in Butte County.

There is certainly gold under the Oroville Dam. Just as any other real estate around here, but at what cost?

I am aware of the basic gold history.. my concern is that the dam is not stable as a rumor mill that said the problems are caused in various parts of operations because there is active gold mining going on and that gold mining is source of leaking thru the abutments and such.:Thankyou Happy F:

Attempting to mine gold from this abomination of a dam would represent a sheer act of desperation by TPTB. That being said, I won't discount it. It certainly may be happening.

The Feather River has historically been a hotbed for gold production. All of it's tributaries now collect in...Lake Oroville. It does make sense.
