It's against the law to be without a life jacket in Oregon rivers or streams

Nobody hates excessive government overreach more than me, but this is one law I totally support.

I live near a creek that is a notorious deathtrap. For decades, hapless swimmers have died there... their feet get caught in the thick murky mud at the bottom & they get sucked under after struggling to get free. A lifejacket would’ve saved them. You’d never guess it to look at it that this creek is so dangerous.

I'd be interested in how often this kind of law is actually enforced.

seatbelts laws were created by insurences not for people...
They simply didn't want to voer all medical expenses.


How people can as for more freedoms by applying more laws and rules?...

Need to add to the law.

Must wear life jacket with Emergency flares in 1 pocket, emergency sandwich in another pocket, VHF radio in another pocket, grappling hook, boat horn, and a helmet with a flashing light on top. Light must be visible from 2 miles away.

Also, emergency jet pack shall be built into said life jacket.
And Satellite emergency beacon. and GPS, Smoke signals, mirror, and an emergency liter of drinking water.
