Hearing Protection Act
With the new administration I believe this deserves more attention. Simply put, trying to get more exposure for it.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Suppressor Association (ASA) is pleased to announce the reintroduction of the Hearing Protection Act (HPA) by Rep. Jeff Duncan (SC-03) and Rep. John Carter (TX-31). This historic piece of legislation, which was originally introduced by Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) in the 114th Congress, will remove suppressors from the purview of the National Firearms Act (NFA), replacing the antiquated federal transfer process with an instantaneous NICS background check. The HPA also includes a provision to refund the $200 transfer tax to applicants who purchase a suppressor after October 22, 2015, which was the original date of introduction.

“The American Suppressor Association believes that citizens should not have to pay a tax to protect their hearing while exercising their Second Amendment rights,” said Knox Williams, President and Executive Director of the ASA. “We are thrilled for the opportunity to work with Representatives Duncan and Carter, who have reintroduced the Hearing Protection Act in this new Congress. Although we recognize that introducing this bill is the first step in what will be a lengthy process to change federal law, we look forward to working on the Duncan-Carter bill, alongside the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation and the NRA to advance and ultimately enact this common-sense legislation.”

Also known as silencers, suppressors are the hearing protection of the 21st century sportsman. Despite common Hollywood-based misconceptions, the laws of physics dictate that no suppressor will ever be able to render gunfire silent. Suppressors are simply mufflers for firearms, which function by trapping the expanding gasses at the muzzle, allowing them to slowly cool in a controlled environment. On average, suppressors reduce the noise of a gunshot by 20 – 35 decibels (dB), roughly the same sound reduction as earplugs or earmuffs. In addition to hearing protection, suppressors also mitigate noise complaints from those who live near shooting ranges and hunting lands.

I don't see why not, H.R. 3799 had 82 Cosponsors. And, considering House and Senate are repub it has a better chance.

Re: Hearing Protection Act
this would be awesome! with so many subdivisions encroaching on shooting ranges, this would help with the noise complaints.
i was told that in finland it is highly encouraged to use a silencer to avoid noise pollution

Re: Hearing Protection Act
I would expect it to pass the House. The Senate will be problematic, unless they attach it as an amendment to another bill with broader support. One thing is for certain: libtards and their media lackeys will have a massive meltdown over it.

Personally, I'd rather see them get SBRs out of the NFA first, and I think it might pass a bit more easily, but yes, I fully support this, too.

Re: Hearing Protection Act
There's so many adapters right now on the market to fabricate your own silencer at a basically anything from a Maglite to a car's oil filter that I don't see why this bill won't pass.

I do know these adapters weren't regulate before and then under Obama they became regulated, so with Trump in office I'm sure the regulations will be taking off

You can still purchase the Maglite silencer kits, but the adapter with the threaded piece is the only part that is regulated so if you could drill out and make your own tbread end,,you're good to go. just don't get caught with it

all of those parts were available at the gun show last weekend with no paperwork, adapters included. IF you are going to use it as a silencer you are supposed to apply for the proper permits and tax stamps

I want to build an MP5SD so I hope this passes along with relaxing the SBR restrictions

You can buy parts and such. But the moment you convert them for Suppressor use you become a felon. Furthermore imo those alternatives don't result in a reliable suppressor. But I digress you shouldn't need to pay a tax on a firearm "part".

SBR....one step at a time. It's a bit easier to get around sbr laws than to get a suppressor.

Re: Hearing Protection Act
you can buy a .22 caliber suppressor for $100 and then you still have to pay a $200 tax, that is just fucking wrong

quite frankly silencers are taboo because of hollywood bullshit, and if that is what our government bases their science on we are in some serious trouble. a silencer makes shooting way more enjoyable for everyone

If I don't put mufflers on my car I am pulled over and fined for faulty equipment and disturbing the peace.

If I put a muffler on my firearm without the proper forms filled out and taxes paid I am a felon.
