I think he feels by now that he isn't going to find a soul mate or partner in this life. And that hurts him more than rejection. Since that form of intimacy can only be experienced in this life, and he believes he's been left out and will never know.

He knows that God set him apart, but his desire to find a partner sometimes comes to cause pain. He is just curious, that's his fault.

The holy of holies is only reserved for the friends of God. And although he wants to bring so many friends of his own with him, only God decides who gets let in. He carries too many secrets, it would be cruel and unjust any other way.

It is a very hard lesson. Pray for him, he carries a lot of weight.
