I am using Magnesium Chloride liquid to stop cramps, but it gives me the runs. What to do?
Its the only thing I have found that stops cramps, and its worth it I guess, having to run to the toilet 4-5x a day.

Mag capsules on their own do not work.
Other electrolyte supps dont work.

Any ideas?

One of the electrolyte supps I have has both of them but no zinc.

What does zinc do?

boron and selenium are needed for proper magnesium uptake. vit d as a supplement in northern climate.

if you have had mercury amalgam fillings poision you it can turn off your magnesium uptake. i had my problem teeth removed 18 months ago. still getting better. main symptom i experienced was numbness from my feet to my hips. only parts of my feet are numb now. there was regular nausia and sweats too. now gone.

good luck.

Re: I am using Magnesium Chloride liquid to stop cramps, but it gives me the runs. What to do?
I get them a lot due to medications, and imbalances after parathyroid removal. What works for me is:

Calcium Citrate

Magnesium Glycinate or Gluconate (both won't cause diarrhea) - I cannot use any others because they mess up the gut. If you cannot find them at a health foods store you can order them online from places that mail-order.

Tonic water (contains quinine, which works good for cramps) - but try to find the one by Zevia (not sweetened with artificial sweeteners, or sugars, but a natural sweetener) - this is because sugar can deplete minerals and lead to more cramps - so also, avoid sugar

Drink plenty of good clean water - try a trace mineral liquid also to supplement

Get your levels checked for magnesium to confirm you actually have a deficiency - they can check other things to find whatever imbalances might cause cramping.

33 grams of magnesium chloride dissolved in 1 litre of water. mix 250ml of that solution (it's what they call magnesium oil) with 5 litres of warm water (37 degrees celsius) and let your feet soak it in for half an hour. your body will be completely saturated with magnesium after just one bath and it bypasses the digestive tract ( no diarrhea). hope it helps! if you want more information, google magnesium oil

What's worse? Cramps or the runs. It's a priority thing.

This.

Plus, you are probably taking way too much.

Also, you would be better off making a magnesium chloride "oil" by mixing a solution of 60% water and 40% powdered MgCl2 in a spray bottle and spraying your skin all over with it. Leave on ONLY 15-20 minutes and shower off...or you will get a rash.

Your body is extremely efficient at absorbing only the magnesium it needs through your skin. (Hence the usefulness of epsom salts, which is magnesium sulfide.)

The other supplements the other poster above mentioned helps your body to actually do something useful in your body with the magnesium you are taking.

Like magnesium, do not take too much calcium or zinc.

For zinc, take 25-50 mg zinc gluconate 3-4 times per week.

Most Americans have a very heavy dairy intake, plus just about everything is "calcium fortified", so you may not have to take additional calcium. Too much and you negatively impact your heart.

Vitamin D deficiency is pretty common.

5,000 - 10,000 IU a day along with magnesium.

Try other forms of Mg. For example, Magnesium Malate. Good absorption without the shits.

Try stacking it with powdered fiber.

Fiber will absorb liquid, and will make your stool more bulky, and therefore less "runny".

As far as I know, calcium is constipating, so it's the opposite effect. Perhaps you're not taking enough calcium.

Re: I am using Magnesium Chloride liquid to stop cramps, but it gives me the runs. What to do?
Bananas is your answer.

Eat 2-3 daily for a week combined with kefir or buttermilk.

Bananas have all the magnesium you need in a much healthier package than pills, along with other important nutrients.

Mix 3 bananas with the kefir in a shake and maybe add a few more fruits you like.

It is the combination of the kefir/buttermilk with the bananas which make the difference. It becomes a hyperfood

Re: I am using Magnesium Chloride liquid to stop cramps, but it gives me the runs. What to do?
Also, stop the Chloride.

Chloride itself causes cramps but most do not know it, because it builds up inside you for a long time, before the cramps emerge.

The effects of Chloride might show up weeks after you stopped taking it. Cramps, loss of motor functions and even up to paralysis.
Most won't be able to associate those symptoms with Chloride, because the reaction is postponed far into the future.

Re: I am using Magnesium Chloride liquid to stop cramps, but it gives me the runs. What to do?
OP, my H had horrible high blood pressure, and also got "charlie horses" often. Tying together disparate info led me to think that he had mag deficiency that was contributing to both conditions.

Didn't want him to take oral mag because of what you're experiencing, so I dissolved epsom salt -mag sulfate- in some filtered water, put it in a spray bottle. Every day he spritzes a little on his stomach, and once under each arm (for some reason it acts as a deodorant, too...he was able to stop using the store bought stuff).

Upshot, along with a couple other daily B vitamins, the epsom salt is keeping his BP is well controlled, and the muscle cramps have flat stopped.

I highly recommend you try it. It's cheap, it's easy, it works, and no side effects.

Re: I am using Magnesium Chloride liquid to stop cramps, but it gives me the runs. What to do?
I get sciatica when i'm low on Magnesium. It's not best to try and take it orally. It's far better to absorb it through your skin. The oils are very effective, but they sting a little, the magnesium coco butter is the best but messy, magnnesium bath salts are the best all round, but not every night you got 1/2 hour to soak, plus that can be expensive. I get by using all three.

Re: I am using Magnesium Chloride liquid to stop cramps, but it gives me the runs. What to do?
Always heard muscle cramps were a sign of Calcium deficiency? That being said you need calcium and magnesium in a 2:1 ratio. Your body loses calcium when you consume acidic foods because calcium is used to neutralize the acidity. So don't consume highly acidic foods and drinks - soft drinks, sports drinks, coffee, meat, etc. Spinach is highly alkaline and can counter the effect of acidic foods. Many say magnesium is best absorbed through the skin, I like a product called EASE. Epson salt baths and ocean swims also great. Should look into trace minerals too. Highly recommend Dr Wallach's youngevity products.
