Are there many snakes in North Carolina? My fiance and I are moving to Greensboro area and I do not like the idea of snakes at all and have been told they can be found in and around your apartment building. Is this true?

Yes, I'm near Charlotte NC. I've see black racers and black rat snakes a couple times a year and they are harmless....actually good to have around. I've been here 17 years and have seen only one diamond back and one copper head that I killed with a shovel. They are more afraid of you. Don't go hiking and sit on rocks, be aware. I did hear there were a few baby copperheads in the landscaping in a neighborhood not far from where I live and like you, it gave me the creeps. I was more aware when I was gardening.

I'm from the north and wasn't used to it when I first moved here. But a few snakes won't get me to move from this beautiful area. 3 hours from the ocean, 2 hours to the mountains. Welcome!!

You're probably more likely to get bit by a black widow or brown recluse spider.
