Hockey questions, how are outdoor game matchups determined?

Same as any other NHL regular season game. If you win in regulation time (2 points) if you tie after 3 periods you each get 1 point and play a 3 on 3 5min ot. If still tied after that you enter shootout until someone wins. The winner in ot or shootout gets 2 points. Loser in ot gets 1. Winner in regulation gets 2 the loser nothing.

It's random although they usually stick to interconference and divisional matchups.

They also had the centennial classic this season and 2 stadium series games. One of which between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia still to be played.
