POLL: Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. What is the most correct choice?
 1. Jobs are so limited and the number chasing them is so large, it is a disaster.
 2. We need to find other ways to give people purpose beyond their jobs.
 3. We need to limit automation and robotics until we find ways to employ real people.
 4. People need to stay in training and school longer to limit the number of jobs needed.
 5. People need to work half the normal work week at full pay and benefits.
 6. There are simply too many people seeking jobs, we need earlier retirement.
 7. There too many people period, we need to reduce the birth rate.
 8. We need to increase the death rate.
 9. Some people need to be classified unemployable.
 10. We need to draft young people into the military and other service programs.
 11. We need to create a large and ambitious race to Mars and off planet locations.
 12. We need to make the deserts bloom and the oceans produce abundance.

Trump and the Pope are correct; jobs are the holy grail of the future. Presently, Jobs are the central issue for giving humans purpose. Without purpose, people perish. Jobs give us hope, self-worth and dignity; without hope no one thrives.

"Kids born today will never drive,’ says Robot Valley champion

Already home to Silicon Valley, could California be about to spawn Robot Valley – a new global tech region dedicated to automation? A champion for the cause – in the shape of a professor in San Diego – certainly hopes so, as he anticipates the future of robots in our lives."

"Space colonization (also called space settlement, or extraterrestrial colonization) is permanent human habitation off the planet Earth.

Many arguments have been made for and against space colonization.[1] The two most common in favor of colonization are survival of human civilization and the biosphere in case of a planetary-scale disaster (natural or man-made), and the vast resources in space for expansion of human society. The most common objections to colonization include concerns that the commodification of the cosmos may be likely to enhance the interests of the already powerful, including major economic and military institutions, and to exacerbate pre-existing detrimental processes such as wars, economic inequality, and environmental degradation.[2][3]"

Sorry.

Carl Sagan once said that the reason no "beings" (for lack of a better word) from other civilizations have ever visited our planet is that by the time any civilization had advanced to the point of being able to travel through space, they'd probably already destroyed themselves from their own cleverness.

Or words to that effect.

Things to think about!!!

"I am reminded of a story that a businessman told me a few years ago. While touring China, he came upon a team of nearly 100 workers building an earthen dam with shovels. The businessman commented to a local official that, with an earth-moving machine, a single worker could create the dam in an afternoon. The official’s curious response was, “Yes, but think of all the unemployment that would create.” “Oh,” said the businessman, “I thought you were building a dam. If it’s jobs you want to create, then take away their shovels and give them spoons!”

Re: Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. What is the most correct choice?
"The work record of industrialized countries in the past century is clear. In the United States, for example, the average workweek has fallen by more than 40 percent in the last 100 years. Among the benefits of wealth accumulation is the increase in leisure that it affords. Very poor nations are typically characterized by people who work most of their waking hours. To do otherwise would be disastrous. Where one finds impoverished nations with high rates of joblessness, one also finds political-economic systems that have large disincentives to create and accumulate wealth."

Way-way-way back in time, they created major construction projects to keep the people busy and useful.

Look at all the megalithinc construction in the ancient past.

It wasn't just purely for the ego of their leaders...it gave people a purpose.

People sitting around eating and consuming and giving nothing back cannot go on forever.

We need a major, nationwide construction program.

My idea...

A system of lakes and reservoirs and aqueducts and pipelines. it could help with water management and flood control in areas that get too much rain and be used to transport water to areas that are not getting enough.

Would cost a pile of money and put 10's of thousands or more to work.

Or...something similar. Doesn't need to be a monument, pyramid or a temple or anything like that...

Just something useful that we could use....
