You know, change from beer to liquor or the reverse if that is the case. It works for me sometimes. TGus User ID: 73439758 United States 12/30/2016 05:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If alcohol isn't having much of an effect on you, why aren't you ready to quit yet. Increased tolerance is one of the signposts that indicate that you're becoming an alcoholic. When it turns into decreased tolerance after that, it's a sign that too much alcohol has significantly affected your body. |

Well, I don't want to be an enabler, but you could always try the 100 proof. Otherwise, perhaps it is time to quit. I tried AA (didn't like it), so I'm not the person to give the best advice on quitting. If you find you cannot quit for 30 days, you have a problem and probably need to quit altogether. Scared this is bad sign but I'm mad this is fucking up my happiness. And quitting means being bored as hell in the real world. How to fix this...probably a stupid question. Not ready to quit yet. Anonymous Coward User ID: 73398458 Canada 12/30/2016 05:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I worry my tolerance is getting high. Don't people who have a high tolerance die from alcohol poisoning? Why do you need alcohol to be happy? My cousin was an alcoholic since about the age of 15. She also smoked and was anorexic. She died last year at the age of 39 from cancer. Sorry, but you're doing life wrong if alcohol is a source of happiness. Quitting also doesn't mean being 'bored as hell in the real world.' You're just faking your way through life if that's what you truly believe. You also don't need any of us tell you that it's a bad sign. That's more than obvious. |

I can go a day without an issue or withdrawal symptoms, however I no longer can get drunk no matter what I drink. When I drink the next day or following day it's the same level I can't reach of getting drunk. It's happened in the past month. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 72510151 United States 12/30/2016 05:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There has to be something to keep my alcohol consumption level up. I researched as you get older an enzyme you produce in your body decreases, maybe that has something to do with it? And how to increase it again? |
Lester User ID: 73680674 United States 12/30/2016 05:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can't cop any kind of a buzz or even a fuzzy-warm after downing a shitload of spirits? Happened to me in 1984... Home after work at 6pm something and had downed a liter of 100 proof rum by 10pm, and nothing! Of course, I knew I was (and still am) alcoholic. 2 yrs earlier, had done AA for 100 some-odd days. Spun out in an alarming way, then could no longer get the relief alcohol provided... Maybe you just need to go a bit further than being a one sixpack drunk? Maybe just not trying hard enough... Never any blackouts? Never any efforts to control your drinking? "Bored as hell in the real world"? Not at all what my life has been since I got Recovery From Alcoholism. but alcoholics are often creative and clever folk... If not one of us, then could see how dull shit might be for you... Keep Trying is my encouragement to you! WTF, you can only die from this shit if you can't get it right... None of the Cool Kids worry about that shit. Seen a lot of them die though. Plenty of people who weren't alcoholics had momentary lapses of judgment while fucked-up and accidentally killed someone innocent or committed some dumb crime that landed them in jail forever. Then there's all the friends and others you stand to alienate. Most normal people don't drink to get drunk. Who ever knew? I never saw "normal" drinking in my formative years... Who knew there were people who didn't drink to get shit-faced? But, they are out there... Might want to visit a closed AA meeting and tell your story and ask for pointers on how you might get your groove back... They will have lots of ideas for you... |

Also, physical addiction (acute physical withdrawal) isn't always an indicator of alcoholism. In my experience, the psycological hook is much, much more difficult to overcome. That said, no one can diagnose you but you. Anonymous Coward User ID: 71911654 United States 12/30/2016 05:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | try switching up what you drink. sometimes if i just drink vodka everyday for a month it starts to feel like i become more immune to the effects but then i switch to rum or something and seems like it resets my tolerance. i rarely ever drink beer so even though im a daily drinker, when i have a beer night, it fucks me up. |
