[link to m.youtube.com (secure)]

Annie Lennox did this song up like I have never seen before, watch to the end, Minstrels, pied piper, Wicker Man, and did she say Which or Witch??

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen like never seen before.
The song predates the 1600's with more than one version of the words.

Ps I am on an iPad could someone please pull in and embed

From The Annie Lennox Christmas Cornuocpia album.

Not seen this before. I really enjoyed it. A reminder that xmas was grown from the original festival of Yule. It actually sums it up perfectly. I really like European folky stuff in general anyway, and the Green Man is all over my house.

It really is something! She can really sing! But is the dark undercurrent hers or that of a producer I wonder?

This is from Scotland. She is a Scot, not English. Please change the thread title.

Re: Scary spooky Christmas song......from United Kingdom of course.
the band are MUMMERS.

Mummers' Plays are folk plays performed by troupes of amateur actors, traditionally all male, known as mummers or guisers (also by local names such as rhymers, pace-eggers, soulers, tipteerers, wrenboys, galoshins and guisers). It refers particularly to a play in which a number of characters are called on stage, two of whom engage in a combat, the loser being revived by a Doctor character. This play is sometimes found associated with a sword dance though both also exist in Britain independently.

Although the main season for mumming throughout Britain was around Christmas, some parts of England had plays performed around All Souls' Day (known as Souling or soul-caking) or Easter (Pace-egging or Peace-egging). In north-eastern England the plays are traditionally associated with Sword dances or Rapper dances.
