The spirit that lingers there in Lafayette Park (which goes all the way up to the fence at the WH since Billy Clinton shut down Pennsylvania Ave. there so he could jog to McDonalds) is black. Melania was not really present during the campaign and now she won't be moving in the WH. Quoting: Deplorable CutiPatuti I realize she wants to do what SHE thinks is best but it feels like marriage instability to me. I have supported Trump since before day one, but this has my hinky meter up. Opinions?? [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] Neither is President Trump moving there. At least not for the first year. It's my belief that President Trump will do the work of the people from there, but not live there. |

It will take dedicated man hours to remove all the bugs that Obama and the DNC have installed already in preparation for a Trump presidency. They will literally have to sweep everything and everywhere. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72316308 Romania 11/20/2016 01:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's not really unprecedented! George Washington lived in NYC (there was no White House). And the nation's first capital was in Philadelphia. Every president since John Adams has lived in the White House, so it is definitely tradition, which I favor. But if Melania wants to wait until the school year is finished before moving there, then I don't see what the big deal is. How many days out of the year has Michelle stayed there vs. being on one vacation after another (on the taxpayers' dime)? |

I have a feeling there is a lot of 'leeway' on both of their parts. I've never felt like theirs was a warm marriage; I think there is respect and support, but I just don't 'feel' it in any other sense. It's always seemed like more of an arrangement, but it obviously works for them. I also never though they'd be moving to the White House, so this doesn't surprise me. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72613280 Totally up to the Trump family where thy choose to stay. President Trump will have to be in Washington for a good portion of the time. He will be commuting. The wonderful thing is he will NOT be commuting on taxpayer's dollars. He uses his own money. I don't think anyone can complain about how he chooses to spend his own money. Now if he was commuting with Airforce One, that would be an issue. No problem. FLy AF1 DC to NYC, at 550 to 600 mph, then jump out back door and parachute to Trump Tower roof. He could do it, he's Batman. 15-20 min top. Getting back is a little harder. Maybe launch a balloon from his roof and a C130 could snatch him up by catching the ballon and pulling him onboard. easy peasy. If he didn't want to stay in the White house, why wouldn't he stay in his new Hotel just down the street. I'm sure they're building a penthouse suite for him. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |

The President and the First lady are like surrogate "parents" to the nation-- and this nation now has young people who are rioting, and who have not been parented very well, and many are from broken homes. The President and first lady should try to do their symbolic duty, and move to the White House. Barron could have plenty of time with his father there--- which is far more important than his school in Manhattan! My grandmother was an ambassador's wife, and she moved where he was posted, lived in the official residence and entertained at least 2-3 times per week because it was her duty. She did all this despite having only one lung. So it can be done and it is called sacrifice and duty. There are so many things that are saddening-- such as the protests. I have never seen this level of protest before in America after a free election. Young people are angry and upset, and they need the calming aspect of a strong, unified and happy First family in the White House. Residing in the White House is a matter of the deep symbolism of American family strength, and it is very important for our nation's unity and peace, plus it is tradition--- the First Family has always resided there-- it is the most prestigious address in the United States, and spurning it will cheapen the WH for future presidents.. Better to get Barron off to a good start in DC as soon as possible, rather than putting it off. There are several very fine private schools in DC. The family can always go home to NY on Friday, and commute back to DC on Monday morning. Besides, watching his father in action at the White House will be a great education for him. There are many elegant antiques and much history in the WH--- antiques and paintings are much nicer than some of the nouveau riche items in Trump tower, I am reluctant to say. The Trump family is beautiful, but their taste is on the nouveau riche, gilded side. Anyway I voted for Trump so I am not just dumping on him. I come from a diplomatic family of public service, and know that a certain amount of ceremony, symbolism and sacrifice is de rigueur for the job. Of course the decision is up to them. |

Well, I think for them it is great. It's not something I would want, but it clearly works for them. If there's one thing I've learned, drama doesn't seem to affect him. I think what he most needs to be careful with is inviting his kids and Jared Kushner to all of his meetings. He's not home free yet. Anonymous Coward User ID: 59512386 United States 11/20/2016 02:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm okay with this. I hear that its just not to have to uproot him for the school year. Having been a child that happened to a lot, this makes me even more respectful of them. They are not just trying to better themselves they truly do care about their children. My own parents only cared about bettering their careers so they moved us all over when we were growing up...I went to at least a half a dozen schools growing up and I will tell you it has a horrible effect on a child. I feel their marriage is warm. I have read the story as to how they met and how their relationship started, they are very much in love, in my opinion. I think it's things like this that start negative rumors. Mr. Trump adores his wife and Mrs. Trump adores her husband. My own husband has a job where he travels a lot! In fact, he is on a business trip right now, but that hasn't made our family any less close. Quite the contrary, actually. It's a very unique closeness that we share and I am sure that Mr. and Mrs. Trump have something similar. Believe it or not, his numerous travels have brought us much closer because we do have to live without one another many times throughout the year. Its almost like you get to rediscover what makes you love them in the first place and it is amazing! It has made our marriage stronger. See, we also are not big on publicly displaying our affection, we believe there is a time and a place. We probably appear from the outside that our marriage isn't very warm. Works for us though...we are celebrating 19 years together on the 27th. |

You don't think a land based Capital away from the coast and centralized is a good idea? Probably my military brain. You know they close bases and stuff all the time? Denver might still have too severe climate. High Plains Texas might be a better idea. As far as Melania, Military members go "Bachelor Quarters" all the time, to give their families a break from moving or to allow a child to finish HS in the same place etc. I guess change is super scary? |
