Kucinich: Bush's actions 'could lead to impeachment'

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) says the White House is "up to its old tricks" as it preps for a U.S. attack on Iran, according to a press release.

The 2008 Democratic presidential candidate warns that Bush's actions could result in impeachment.

Kucinich accuses the Bush administration "of mounting a media blitz to prepare the U.S. public for an eventual attack on Iran," according to the release, which cites a report that the President authorized the military to kill Iranians operating inside Iraq.

"The White House is up to its old tricks again," says Kucinich, accusing the administration of "providing information by anonymous sources and portraying Iran as an aggressor in Iraq." He continues, "The President is mischaracterizing U.S. action vis à vis Iran. In fact, the U.S. is already engaged in offensive and provocative acts against Iran.

"The President's strategy, by portraying our involvement as only being on the defensive, is laying out the groundwork for him to attack Iran and bypass authorization by Congress."

The six-term Congressmember, a long-time advocate for peace, blasts "the White House spin machine" for "providing justification for a new war ... against Iran." He adds, "The Washington Post is quoting strategically placed Administration sources who are providing justification for an attack... This new twist on Iran, a country this Administration refuses to have free and open diplomatic talks with, is stating the Administration's case for war."

Kucinich closes by warning, "The degree to which this President continues to take steps to go to war against Iran without consulting with the full Congress is the degree to which he is increasingly putting himself in jeopardy of an impeachment proceeding."

The full release is available at Rep. Kucinich's official site:

Yesterday there was a bold attack on an American base in Iraq. Five soldiers were killed (one on the scene and 4 abducted and later found dead).

How long until "evidence" comes out that ties the attackers to Iran?

How long until the Fuhrer gets on TV and says that Iran is taking action against our troops in Iraq?

How long until we have antagonized Iran enough that they say or do something "provocative?" (Like shooting down one of our spy drones.)

How long until the Fuhrer orders an attack on Iran for our national security interests? After all, they are out to get us!

...aint ya been watchin' the news?

This is the build support to invade a country all over again. A few lies here, some false evidence there, and you have a case for invasion!

And why not, it worked great for Iraq - and the administration figures it will work again for Iran...

the scary part is, they might be right! After all, Bush's approval is at 33%... who the fuck are these morons?!

If 33% of the public is so fucking stupid to still support this imbecile and his evil administration, they will support anything...

even another outrageous, unjustified, cluster-fuck of a war.

Iran has been an aggressor since the fall of the Shah.

They financed and supported the people that truck bombed the US embassy in Beiruit.

And the Marine barracks.

The list goes on and on from there, yes they are in Iraq.

But then you will respond by either saying it is all lies or how the Iranians are justified.

Re: Rep. Kucinich: The White House is up to its old tricks again, providing info by anonymous sources and portraying Iran as an aggressor in Iraq!
Like most congresspersons, Kucinich's bills he introduced were written by staffers. Unlike most congresscritters, Kucinich didn't even read "his" bills.

This came out when his offering, "The Space Preservation Act of 2001" originally introduced in the House as HR 2977, caused a bit of consternation when a particular term was used. After the laughter died down and Kucinich was unable to explain what the term even meant -- and that "his staff must have put it in at the last minute" -- he embarrassedly re-introduced the bill as HR 3616, the "Space Preservation Act of 2002".

Of course, even then, Kucinich's reputation was such that most of his bills were considered being rather silly; and like most of his bills, both 2977 and 3616 died in committee, even though his second one had been re-written to remove the rather incomprehensible term.

Of course, the "term" was ...

"Chem-trails"!!

It turns out that one of the local woo-woos from his Ohio district, Lorie Kramer, a long-time chemazoid even back then, had managed to get hold of Kucinich's chief of staff and convinced him of the Secret NWO Sinister Plot blah blah blah, and got him to add "chem-trails" to the list of Evil Things that the Government is Doing to Us which Should be Banned.

Interestingly enough, the original bill (HR 2977) banned any such "chem-trails" from being deployed only at altitudes above sixty miles. Chemazoids believe, if you recall, that these nonexistent boogers are "sprayed" at altitudes much lower: from two to six miles. Therefore, even if there were such a thing as "chem-trails" and even if his bill had passed, it would've been worthless from the get-go!

Of course, despite the problems, Kucinich was considered as a great statesman and fearless leader by the chemazoids, with laudatory editorials on Clowney's website, etc. His colleagues in Congress thought him an idiot.

After rewriting his bill (Kucinich, in an interview in 2002, said he'd never heard of "chem-trails" and that, after discussing the matter with others in his staff, was assured that they did not exist), he was roundly excoriated by the chemazoid community for "selling out to TPTB", but was still (and, I suppose, still is) considered an idiot by the rest of the House of Representatives.

However, his anti-war stance (which admittedly he has had for a good while) is now popular, and he has re-established some credibility with the more radical leftists. He's not getting any fat-cat money, though, because most people involved in politics consider him a flake who runs (this is his second trip) just for the publicity and refuses to drop out of the race as long as there's a TV cameraman and reporter hanging around.

What's really sad (at least if you're one of the radical left) is that even they now look at Kucinich as a modern-day Harold Stassen.

 Quoting: Shadow

I would rather have the Shah in power than to see Iran turn into a theocratic state.

But that's too late already, eh?

Here's the history you didn't know:

1940, the Shah of Iran sent messages to Hitler signifying support of the Nazis. The British, having oil connections in Iran, got pissed about it. Churchill went to Stalin to discuss what to do with Iran.

1940, the Shah of Iran visited Hitler in Berlin, signed some treaties. The British got very pissed and the Soviets saw that as a threat since Soviet Union bordered with Iran. Churchill and Stalin sought ways to stop the Shah.

1941, while the United States was shocked by the attack on Pearl Harbor, the British forces and the Soviet Red Army invaded Iran, deposed the Shah, and installed his son (the same Shah who was overthrown in the Islamic revolution in 1979). The British and Soviet forces occupied Iran for the duration of the war.

1941-1945: the occupation of Iran by the Soviet Red Army under British watch.

The battle and occupation of Stalingrad was very important to Hitler because it would give the Nazis a strategic hold in the oil-rich Caucasus region bordering the occupied Iran at the time.

Thanks 168506, it begins to make sense. Palestine was the Brits' price for the US's involvement, which may be why Iran is said to have supported Hitler.

" the British forces and the Soviet Red Army invaded Iran, "

Yep that's true!
Russia and Britain jointly occupied Persia/Iran in late summer 1941 to guarantee a path for wartime supplies to Russia. And to take out what was believed to be a pro-German government. The definitely pro-German leaders of Iraq who had been overthrown by the British earlier in 1941 had fled to Tehran.

re; 168506 comments:

True dat.

Furthermore, when Reza Pahlavi was forced to name Mohammed Mossadegh as Prime Minister with control over the military, he (Mossadegh) was overthrown with the help of the CIA, ostensibly because of his ties to Tudeh Party, which was a puppet of the Soviets.

In other words, when the Nazis were the Bad Guys, we worked Sneaky Tricks against them with the help of the Russians. When the Russians became the Bad Guys, we worked Sneaky Tricks against them.

I think this is what's known as "international diplomacy" or something.

Shadow, perhaps I'm misunderstanding your post.

Are you saying that the UK "gave up" something in return for American involvement in the Second World War, and that "something" was control of Palestine?

The Balfour Declaration was signed in 1917, 24 yeas earlier.
