The school is afraid sex offenders will show up in costumes to the Halloween festivities. While sad they had to do this, it's a good decision. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71882165 You're supposed to FIGHT BACK, not roll over and play dead. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 73205154 Canada 10/21/2016 01:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Last year I overheard four old hipster babyboomers in a coffee shop discussing how to encourage more parents to bring their kids trick or treating to the mall and other businesses instead of staying in their local neighbourhoods... as requested by the business owners. They were obviously well off members of the local business board and nobody in my area had a single kid. Each oblivious that they were actively ruining the bonds of their community. The baby boomer generation is just shit. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 70207715 United States 10/21/2016 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The main excuse given for banning costumes was that since we're a Title 1 district with lots of kids in housing projects, homeless, transient, etc. who could not afford costumes, it wasn't FAIR. A group of us banded together and got independent donors, local companies, etc. to agree to buy/provide a "library" of costumes any kids could borrow for the day hence alleviating the problem for the kids who could not afford them. Classic "objection handling" tactics from Sales 101. Problem solved, right? Nope, the flaming liberal idiots still outlawed it citing other nonsensical reasons. Then they wonder why all the parents who used to donate goods, time, materials, etc. have stopped being involved in the schools. Maybe that was their goal, if so, then mission accomplished. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73141052 Since Halloween is a religious celebration it would be better to get all religious customs/celebrations out of government schools. People should observe them on their own time. Halloween is NOT a religious holiday. It was born a harvest time tradition if you feel the need to go back a thousand years, and has been peppered with this and that throughout time, but it has become an American "spooky consumer" holiday. For many it is still a religious holiday. |

User ID: 73174096 United States 10/21/2016 04:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They banned Halloween a long time ago in the school system here. It's called a "Fall Party" and you can't bring treats because of all the "allergies". So my kids bring home a million pencils and plastic garbage. And probably can't say Halloween at school. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68909496 Also, they are slowly trying to make Halloween extinct overall. I work in retail and notice the decline every year with Halloween merchandise and specialty stores. It's mainly just candy now. And the same décor and costumes from last previous years. I think I'm keeping my kids home from school on Halloween so we can celebrate properly. Same here, I hate the stupid stuff they bring home. It cheap plastic spider rings and pincers and tattoos. It sucks and it all goes in the trash. U can't send any snacks to school either.
