Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73158983 Soooo gasoline was .69 cents per gallon in 1996 in your town then I guess fuckertard? It was actually 89 cents in my town in 1996, so I don't see why it couldn't have been somewhere around 69 cents in the other commenter's area. (Also, note the fact that they said "nearly tripled". Yes, it really has "nearly tripled" in the past 20 years. In 1996/1997, I was driving across the country pretty frequently. Were you doing much driving, then?) |

YOU HAD INTERACTION and FUN and CONFRONTATION! 20 years ago it didn't matter that much if you lived in an average house or an average car. 20 years ago there was still no "dot com" hysteria and McMansions and "The Real Housewives". 20 years ago people did not act like MONKEYS! 20 years ago you could travel around the world without fear. 20 years ago you were having much more fun per se, however the problems society and you had 1996 right? Let's see now... Oh, you don't have a big wallet, and a big car, and a big house? Sorry buddy, you ain't gonna "jump" a woman. Oh, you don't have money and want to study? Sorry, rather go and flip some burgers. If you're a woman, there's also porn or "sugar daddies". Oh, repetitive mainstream music being programmable onto a PC and full of vulgar and sexual content. On and on and on. Today you wish either you could turn back time or die peacefully 'cos you're fed up with all this societal, economic, and spiritual decay. |

Thanks for sharing your insight. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72672660 In a way, we are enslaving ourselves through our dopamine requirements. If I may, a quote from my book [page 8] There is nothing wrong with things that directly or indirectly trigger dopamine surges in moderation, whether it's listening a song that you really like, going out with your friends, eating sugary foods, playing video games, watching digital entertainment or pornography, participating in social media, browsing the internet, etc. However, sustained dopamine surges over a long period of time leads to a loss of dopamine activity in the brain, prompting you to seek out even greater dopamine-rewarding activities. It also makes activities that provide less dopamine surges appear to be less-rewarding and harder to do. Perhaps your subconscious signals your conscious mind not to start a conversation with someone you don't know, for example, because being 'social' online would provide you with a greater surge of dopamine. So, instead of striking up that conversation you pull out your phone, all the while not realizing what just happened ...very interesting insight. Especially considering that the brain-parasite Toxoplasma gondii is a true expert in dopamine synthesis and administration. "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. Never lose a holy curiosity. Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance." Albert Einstein |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 71955936 United States 10/11/2016 08:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I can offer a perfect example. DRIVING. I've been a delivery driver for 6 years off and on since 2004. I can say without question that most of you should not have driver's licenses. Putting smart phones in people's hands was hands down one of the dumbest things we could've done as a species. You're not supposed to be on the computer while operating heavy machinery at high speeds. People bitch about Muslims being a threat, but the fact is most of you are the biggest threat to eachother's lives because of how bad you are driving. If I were president most of you would lose your licenses and be forced back into heavily reformed driver training programs that would be extremely strict and difficult. Earning a license would be very difficult and losing it once aquired would be very easy. You wouldn't be allowed to go out on the roads in blissful ignorance of what a blatant threat you are to other people's lives if I were in charge. Drunk drivers aren't the problem. Sober 16 year olds and childish, poor trained adults are the problem. Which, essentially amounts to about 99% of you. |

We now witness, on a global scale, more of what's happening to our fellow man/woman/beast, day in, day out. Anonymous Coward User ID: 73051449 United States 10/11/2016 09:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This! When I was a teenager back in the early '80s, we spent all our time outside, built camps and baked our lunch in campfires, made rafts, washed cars and mowed lawns for pocket money. socialised properly, not "virtually" as we do now. Now, youngsters wander about like zombies, staring at the tiny screens on their so-called "smart" phones, obsessed with ridiculous issues that wouldn't have even BEEN issues when I was a kid. Most people don't have a clue or pay attention to what is going on in the world. (I refuse to have a "smart" phone, I like to leave the internet behind when I go out) Disgusted with the latest generation of "SJWs", "Snowflakes" is the common term and rightly so. If a world war does come (and it seems imminent) how the fuck is this hopeless, useless generation going to manage? Arthur C Clarke nailed it back in the 80's. He predicted a generation unable to function without communication devices that handed them all the information they needed on a plate. Goodbye to social skills, common sense and initiative. Well, here we are on the brink of global upheaval, and it looks as if what's left of society will have to be commandeered by those who grew up before our minds and individuality were destroyed by gadgets (ie: anybody over the age of 35) I am under 35. I grew up climbing trees, riding my bike, playing football, capturing bees in jars and watching them die (true) I feel like I dodged a bullet. Well done that man :) I was hammered when I typed that lot out last night (or was it this morning?) Nothing worse than ranting when drunk, always asking for trouble :D |

Same goes for females pretending to be male. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54919691 Crazier still is that this kind of irrational and crazy thinking is being taught in schools to children at a very very young age. I shudder for future human generations. Hopefully God will soon bring an end to this warped society and normalness will be the only thing left, with the only good moral people alive left. User ID: 70297310 United States 10/11/2016 07:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 20 years ago it was crazy ... 40 years ago even more so. I was born in 1975 ... from what I understand, 1975 was pretty crazy. A lot of things have gotten better. When my parents got married, they thought my dad could be an office clerk and my mom would stay at home and somehow we'd be able to survive, lol. They had a rude awakening and thank God they forced us to think differently. They also thought cocaine was really fun, and speed wouldn't hurt them. They thought DDT was a good thing. And plastic, disposable everything. All that was ill thought out and we've gotten way smarter. The way we (intelligent people, anyway) raise our kids now is better. Helicopter parents or not, when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s I was in a lot of very dangerous situations that my children will never be in ... hanging out with people (adults) I should not have been, etc. It's a wonder I came out alive - a lot of us didn't. Seatbelts. Car seats. No cutting school. No smoking in public buildings. Safety recalls. What's crazy now this narcissistic, look-at-me culture ... that's how it has gotten worse. Ugly, mean, narcissistic, stupid people acting like like they are movie stars, showing their private parts, fake hair, nails, everything. Celebrity role models - irrational and crazy. It makes it way harder for kids in that respect, so thank God we've stopped allowing our kids to hang out in the woods with creeps who buy them beer, or leaving them with babysitters named "snake" and "bones" ... I guess it evened out, lol. Last Edited by SugarSand on 10/11/2016 07:13 PM When the shit hits the fan and the end is just nigh, will you cry out to Heaven? Will you lie down and die? Not me, my dear one - THIS IS MY SACRED LIFE - to no one nor no thing I'll surrender. For how does one know where when dead she will go, or if sweet Mother Earth he'll remember? - Sug |

Gays once fought for the freedom to do what they want, now they fight to lock up, psychiatrically label or otherwise persecute anyone that does not bend over to their dogma. US universities were incubators of free speech, now they are dangerous spaces for anything but the most weaponised forms of newthink mindrot. The internet was an critical mass of noospheric freshness, now it is a toxic weapon of mass distraction.
