Unusual earthquake warning prompts action, anxiety in Southern California/2nd new fault line discovered

If you were more informed on the science behind propagation, what different propagation scenarios can or can not do to the Los Angeles area, if you were more aware of the type of sediment/rock under Los Angeles, you might have a different thought. A more informed thought.

Where an EQ happens, the sediment/rock in your area (even many many miles away from epicenter), and which way the EQ propagates IS important.

If you are in Los Angeles, you might wanna have an EQ kit.

Watch the video I posted above.. Start at @ 20:00 minutes in. That is if you are interested in learning what you might expect if the southern portion of San Andreas goes off.

Somehow though, I think you prefer to remain completely ignorant about the science. It is handy for you and your mindset.

Hell yeah, we love to be laid back.. I have what I call my "Earthquake kit on steroids". I have EQ straps, I have numerous fire extinguishers, I have tools located in areas they will be available if needed. And many other small things to be more prepared. Once you have done as much as you can do to prepare, you can pretty much relax. They can not predict EQs. No sense worrying about it every moment of your existence.

Now if you have not prepared at all??? You probably should worry every minute. lol..

I hope all of you interested in this, take the time to check out the video. It is a wealth of interesting information.

San Andreas is a strike-slip fault. They behave much different than a subduction fault. (Like Cascadia)

Southern San Andreas is overdue by more than 100 years, so yes, the magnitude is expected to be higher. But I do not believe it will be more than an 8+.

Cascadia is a different story.

lol, so true. Weather wise, I love San Diego. (Although, perfect weather nearly 365 days a year, can get boring for those of us that DO like a good rain storm hehe) I've thought about scenarios. Hard winter, weeks without power? yuck..
Hurricanes.. No thank you, if my stuff is going to be tossed around, I would rather it be tossed within 5 feet, not 5 miles.. Same for tornadoes. lol.. If there ever is an EMP, holy cow, I sure do not want to be on the East Coast. The way the wind blows. (I think most know what I mean)

Being a native Californian for 66 years we will have an earthquake once in a while and I have never seen anybody predict one so every time I hear these kind of warning I say BS. We have learned to predict Chemtrails though.

The San Andreas fault is where the Pacific Plate and North American Plate meet - I didn't realize until now that San Fran is on the North American Plate, while Big Sur, Los Angeles and San Diego are on the Pacific Plate. I had assumed before they were all on the Pacific Plate. Learn something new every day.

You would probably love the video I posted in here a page or so back. It's fascinating.

Very informative! So he is saying diverting the water in Salton sea possibly makes the time between big quakes longer, but also may build up more pressure and might make for a bigger quake when it goes off in the future...that is my understanding of what he said.

Yep, as much as it is all speculative, going by past records makes for a more informed guess you might say. It was an interesting study. I wonder if we will ever truly understand and truly predict EQs.

I haven't had a chance to watch the posted video yet (I will,) but here's another very short one. If you can get through the old bad graphics and cringe worthy lady speaking, it has some great information. Especially where the hitch in the get along is for the San Andreas - The Big Bend.

It also highlights how the Gulf of California is widening and will move northward into the Salton Sea. I've even watched a couple of dissertations that suggest that the San Andreas will skip eastward again and bypass that Big Bend area by moving around the transverse ranges described in the video. The energy will take the path of least resistance. If it does that, it could join the Gulf of California with the Central Valley, completely flooding out the middle of CA. Take a look at the link of the map below the video. Imagine the fault skipping a bit east from the Salton Sea and moving straight up.

Of course, none of this will happen within our lifetimes, but it's amazing to think about. Reminds me of the Edgar Casey map or the future Navy map a bit.
