The word is that the protests are going to spread to Wilmington nc and Raleigh. They covering there asses. At first read I was thinking this made sense but then I realized, Marines aren't allowed to be in public in their utility uniform. They are also specifically prohibited from any political protesting by the UCMJ so on further consideration this has some logical inconsistencies. Some dark green Marines might go out and try it but they would be in a major shit storm if they got caught. Leaning towards not being this.

He says yes, calling back a battalion for a lost item is possible especially if it's a weapon. Also putting them on alert if they aren't scheduled to be on is a signal. In combination it's a definite possibility for activity. He also yelled at me and said if this is true it's fucked up and breaking opsec.

If they are close enough that you are using slugs then you need to reconsider your defensive position.
Nothing wrong with slugs in CQC situation, though you should look at some of the more advanced rounds available. Hornaday or someone makes a round that is a mix of .00 buckshot and copper discs about 1cm thick.

In general slugs are more suited for the other side, breaching, hitting armored positions, body armor, etc. for defensive positions go with as large a bore rifle first, then buckshot if they get close.

There are tens of thousand of National guard soldiers located closer which would actually be legal to send in for riot control and they have all the same equipment.

They wont. what is happening is the military is worried those stationed at the bases will join in as many have expressed the desire to do so.

So to stop that they have cancelled leave... no sending in marines. they have locked them down to stop anything happening.

First off, I'm not a Marine but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and this sounds bogus.

My tits are calm. Being the cynic that I am, I'd bet that this is related to a (false) claim of sexual assault. The military is so fucking neutered these days that they'd actually pull such fuckery as canceling leaves and recalling Marines, confining them to their post/barracks, and accusing every Marine of being a predator. I was in a unit in which that exact scenario occurred. It's fucking sick.

When I was stationed in lejuene we were advised about the issues with locals vs Marines. Especially in Wilmington area. It's very likely to me that the base commanders are making a decision based on the local area security. Plus when Marines go on Libo we usually drink till we drop. Lots of bar fights break out. When those altercations happen then that individuals Marine's command is notified and there is hell to pay. The more incidents like that happen, then it makes the command look bad like they can't control their Marines.plus the command is responsible for each individual Marines safety. So they chose to keep the Marines on base, rather then risk the potential injuries that could occur from massive marine vs rioter brawl while making sure they don't look bad in the process. That's been my experience anyway.
