I sweat profusely - I get dizzy and almost feel like I will pass out. My entire body wants to shake. I can't sign my own name until after 12 pm. I am 61 yrs old, my father died of diabetes at the age of 60.

Now here is the kicker. I drink vodka every day - never to get drunk - but, I do every day to calm the symptoms above. These are not hangovers they are nothing I've ever felt before. And the god damn itchys !

Get a check-up asap.

So I'm scheduled for September 8th. What do I say? I'm an Alcoholic that thinks he is also a diabetic?

Honestly.

 Quoting: GUAM USA

Tell the truth. Give the doctor complete honesty. Maybe write all your symptoms on paper and bring that to the appointment. In the mean time sleep and eat healthy. If you can test your morning glucose before you eat and drink anything. A good reading would be under a 100 when you wake up.

Re: Any One Out Here With Diabetes? Not sure I am one but curious.
If you're a diabetic, drinking alcohol is like drinking straight sugar.

As previously suggested, check your sugar with a meter. A doctor will give you one for free if you turn out to be a diabetic. They will probably put you on some form of diabetic meds, depends how your sugar readings turn out. Usually they start you out on metforman, which is a pill.

High sugar diabetes can take many years to kill you and it will with blindness, heart disease, amputations, etc. Low sugar diabetes can kill you in a very short time, like overnight.

GO TO A DOCTOR. Be honest about your alcohol intake so they can work around it. If you've been drinking for along time, the doctor knows you won't be able to quit cold turkey.

Re: Any One Out Here With Diabetes? Not sure I am one but curious.
There are pre diabetes type symptoms and things that are similar but not.

I hit the floor, it was really odd, and it felt like the whole world was flattened by gravity, and heard my son's voice from far above me, very quiet, though he was shouting, are you alright. So the doctor was convinced it was coma stage of diabetes, and I was thirsty all the time, and frequently using washroom.

But it wasn't diabetes on the test and they decided it was meniere's disease, the fainting spells and dizziness. But the other symptoms have never been explained.

Had the blood work twice now, so still isn't registering as diabetes and still have no explanation.

Diabetes is not a thing. What you are feeling are the effects of a lifetime allergy to wheat, dairy and sugar. Cease all consumption and you will get better.

I'm diabetic and control it via diet. Shaking and itchiness weren't symptoms for me. Trouble with eye sight (I have 20/16 vision so this was very unusual for me), aching feet, unquenchable thirst and a general feeling of unwellness were my issues.

As others have said, dump sugar now! All sugar. And carbs (bread, potatoes, rice). Dude, that booze has to go and I mean now! It's like ingesting straight sugar and is probably causing you to have extremely high blood sugar. Once you get rid of booze, sugar and carbs, you will feel better.

And keep that appointment. All of what I said above is IF you have diabetes. Professionals need to diagnose you. Once they do they, get the hell away from them and do what I said above. They'll send you to a dietician who will recommend too many carbs and you'll wind up on insulin if you listen to them.

In the meantime, get a meter. You can buy them at Walgreens for around $20. Get some strips. And a poker to puncture your fingertip. It's very easy to do. Although they've lowered the "normal" number to 90, it used to be 120 and they probably lowered it so they could diagnose more people and sell more drugs and meter strips for $$$. You'll also hear about A1C. They want that number to be below 7. When I was diagnosed, I had a reading of 379 and my A1C was 13.9. If your reading is above 350, go to the ER, don't wait for the hospital. Do the test 1 hour after you eat. Good luck!

Your description of symptoms makes me think of liver cirrhosis.

Loss of appetite
Lack of energy (fatigue), which may be debilitating
Weight loss or sudden weight gain
Bruises
Yellowing of skin or the whites of eyes (jaundice)
Itchy skin
Fluid retention (edema) and swelling in the ankles, legs, and abdomen (often an early sign)
A brownish or orange tint to the urine
Light colored stools
Confusion, disorientation, personality changes
Blood in the stool
Fever

You could have severe candida overgrowth from the alcohol,at the extreme, yeast overgrowth patterns many symptoms of various 'diseases'. You could have hep, advanced stage Cirrhosis (can cause weakness, loss of appetite, easy bruising, yellowing of the skin (jaundice), itching, and fatigue). Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) also causes some of your symptoms especially dizziness/fainting and as you mentioned diabetes. Also radiation poisoning has some of your symptoms

I would have a series of blood work tests and a general go over. The alcohol is just making you worse and damaging you.

Yes I think I know - just have no idea how to turn this around.

Could be DT's (deleti tremens) from drinking so much. If the symptoms go away after you drink, coils definitely be that.

Alcoholics are often low on vitamin B, which is essential for good berve functions.

Dizziness and swearing could indicate a vestibular problem, like Miniers's disease.

Either way, I would go to a doctor and get checked out. If you are having DT's, you will need medicine (like Librium) while you are detoxing off of vodka, so you don't get seizures and shakes.

Re: Any One Out Here With Diabetes? Not sure I am one but curious.
One of the symptoms is glucose in the urine, are there sticky residue on the rim of the toiletbowl?

There is also a very important thing to watch out for, if you start to smell like acetone, you have gone into ketoacidosis, which is very serious and could kill you.

Best of luck on your checkup, a lot can be done with dietary changes and exercise.
 Quoting: Fornuft

Yeah, I don't know about sticky residue on the bowl - but my piss is orange/red. And smells like poop.
 Quoting: GUAM USA

That's very bad news. When your urine is dark yellow or orange, your kidneys are affected. I'm a biologist and my lab tests urine in one department. If your urine stinks all the time, it's either your kidneys or liver not working correctly. Both are bad news. I think I saw your picture in your avatar before and you seem like you're in your 50's or 60's? Even worse, because your body can't recover like when you were young.

I suggest if you want to live and be happy is to quit drinking completely. I know that will be a bitch to do, but you have a family, right?

I drank so much over 20 years that my whole body turned into candida. My liver was almost shot, but I recovered. It's tough to get over an addiction. Do it when you have time. You have a wife and children that you love? Do it for them, not for yourself. That's what made me stop. I did it so I could be a grandparent to see my daughter have her own kids. Best of luck to you and I know how hard it is to stop. It feels like everything is taken away from you. Go 6 or more months without a drink and go swimming (you're in Guam) and your body will fight it and you'll get better.

Best of luck.

Simple approach to control it that has no bad outcomes: go to to a high-fat, low carbohydrate (HFLC) diet. But eat high quality fats.

Orange piss and the itching means your liver is starting to fail.
You need to stop drinking NOW. I am completely serious.

Is your poop als pale or clay-colored?

You need to be worked up by a doc ASAP including fasting blood glucose and a basic chem panel which includes liver function tests.

The shakiness in the AM could be low blood sugar because of not eating overnight. Also if your liver is damaged it may not be able to produce glucose while you are fasting (this is one of the livers jobs , by the way - it stores glycogen and releases it as blood glucose to keep it in a safe range).

However chowing down on sugar to raise it will just send you on roller coaster as your pancreas (if its working) will dump out a bunch of insulin in response to the sugar and possibly send you low again.

You need to stop drinking, start eating balanced small meals with protein, fat and carbs in them, and see a doc ASAP.

Those are some of them. But drinking vodka all day in Guam could do that to you too. Are your feet problematic in any way? High bloody sugar makes the blood thick. Tends to mess with your feet where the thick blood is furthest from your heart.

I know of two kids...one female 9 and one male 10, who were diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) in the past six months. Both are beautiful, active children, and into sports. Two different families. Life changing for two so young.

That doesn't sound anything like diabetes. It sounds like you're starting to go through withdrawals from alcohol by morning. Once you have few drinks your hands settle down and you get yourself back together.

That's classic signs of alcoholism. I've known people who started the morning off with a bottle of whiskey and would drink it out of a coffee cup so it wasn't so obvious what they were dong. Their hands wold shake badly like you describe. So much so they could hardly hold a drink till they had a few. A classic alcoholic way to deal with that is to tie a handkerchief around your wrist, loop it over the back of your neck, and pull your hand with the drink up to your mouth.

I don't believe you've said exactly how much you drink. To the people I was talking about a bottle was a liter. They referred to a fifth as a "little bottle".

It's easy to get a glucose level done. They just stick your finger and can tell right away what your blood sugar level is.

A liver profile involves them drawing blood and a few days to analyze it. Your doctor will palpate your stomach to see if your liver is enlarged, look at the whites of your eyes to see if you're jaundiced, etc.

It's a little hard to believe you're confusing the effects of alcoholism for diabetes, but good luck. You really need to stop drinking.
