Private prisons could work fine if they were regulated to be NON-PROFIT only. Nope, there should be bids put out, with specific requirements for prisoner safety, healthcare, cleanliness, and feeding, with a Government agency (which knows the costs of the Federally operated prisons) deciding on which firm is the low bidder. The low bidder still has to make a profit, has to pay guards and employees, and all the associated costs of running the prison. If they can do it for less than the Government (which shouldn't be too difficult), then lets use them. Unless it's NON-PROFIT, there will always be a natural selection towards keeping people employed and making money by keeping prisons full. The government taking full control of it just means another government slush fund in the making. |

Yup, what greater impetus to incarcerate more and more people than when the prison industry is promoted for jobs creation and investment. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72369318 Germany 08/18/2016 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is good news. Prisons for profit is a fucked up thing. They don't make anything better. They create fucking animals inside and out. What happens when the bottom line isn't reached? Will they lock your ass up on some fucked up charge? You bet they will and are. They should be held accountable for that shit. I'd have them shot with a firing squad. You fuck up lives, we fuck your life up. |

They are all corporations etc. they're just saying instead of having the third party reap in the profit the fed will run them themselves and get 100 percent of the profit. A little reading comprehension goes a long way. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72052582 They need to also end the use of PRIVATE ARMIES (ie: mercenaries) to do that work that the US Military should do. If it isn't a good enough fight for the US to fight directly ... then they shouldn't be doing it secretly via PRIVATE ARMIES!! Ahh but they can send private mercenaries to do their bidding without arousing the suspicions of the citizens and most importantly; not getting approval from Congress. Black budgets that are not accountable, are used to fund these clandestine operations. The Roman Empire did the same thing. We all know how that ended with Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates announced the decision on Thursday in a memo that instructs officials to either decline to renew the contracts for private prison operators when they expire or “substantially reduce” the contracts’ scope. The goal, Yates wrote, is “reducing — and ultimately ending — our use of privately operated prisons.” This is huge. Hopefully states' will follow suit and this is the beginning of the Change this country needs Its bullshit with no teeth and no timeline and with a loophole big enough to drive a Gitmo through it, you know, before they closed Gitmo down. |
