Quoting: Looking Around [link to finance.yahoo.com (secure)] Surprised it is not down more..! This makes me happy! I really wasn't familiar with the problems with private prisons until Ammon Bundy and the other Patriots were put in jail. Started researching, and I was truly shocked at what is happening in penal system. It's not just the private prisons either that are a problem. Our bail bond system is truly corrupt as well. |

Police, the courts and prisons are too important to hand over to for-profit corporations. Not intended to be a factual statement. |

User ID: 59792312 United States 08/18/2016 08:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.washingtonpost.com (secure)] Quoting: Crystal*Libra The Justice Department plans to end its use of private prisons after officials concluded the facilities are both less safe and less effective at providing correctional services than those run by the government. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates announced the decision on Thursday in a memo that instructs officials to either decline to renew the contracts for private prison operators when they expire or “substantially reduce” the contracts’ scope. The goal, Yates wrote, is “reducing — and ultimately ending — our use of privately operated prisons.” This is huge. Hopefully states' will follow suit and this is the beginning of the Change this country needs And we trust the DOJ because ^^^THIS^^^ Yeah, they have an impeccable reputation. I'm wondering if they might be considering dumping all the violent criminals on the streets in the (likely to be soon) economic melt down and use this as cover for the dump? The entire thing is corrupt! Of course actual criminals, those who cause harm, should be removed from society, but pot growers, and ranchers, and people with moral objections to the out of control regulatory and "legal" system should not be doing time. Crimes are when actual harm is caused to an actual person or their property. Not when the state fails to get their cut on an otherwise normal function of human life. Quoting: Crystal*Libra Apparently Hillary and Donald drama is more important? They are just a public puppet for the real people making decisions, this is actually a decision and it could be game changing... There is a reason they are called private and Hilary is part of this group. She had stock in them and it was not that long ago they were saying they needed more prisoners. At one of these prison it someone got some video out, there were women and children there locked up, I think they said these were homeless people. A state One of the Carolina's I think tried to do the same to their homeless but were stopped. Who these homeless were have not idea, but it was women and children. There is so much evil and that is what you call, most of the things they do, going on today it coming to light. Not pretty either. Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |

When our Federal Overlords say this about private businesses: Quoting: Twonstradamus "The goal is to ultimately end the Justice Department's use of the privately operated prisons as they provide lower quality services and are less cost efficient" I saw that!!!!! It's past time. Imprisoning humans is a business and they'll keep it filled with the nearest human they can put their hands on. They also MURDERED a girl I went to school with. She took a bad path, ended up in prison. She had severe diabetes, her body made zero insulin. On top of that she was allergic to pork and insulin incubated in a pig cell (or something like that). They put her on suicide watch (for complaining), gave her the same high starch diet the other inmates got, and pork-incubated insulin. She was only 45. Ok, she messed up. This I know. But we don't lock humans up in America and murder them. That's exactly what they did. Private owned facility Dawson State Jail. Her entire family sued them--parents, grown children. It cost her her life for a ONE YEAR SENTENCE. [link to www.dallasobserver.com] [link to www.texasprisonbidness.org] [link to www.prisonlegalnews.org (secure)] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72817843 I don't know how they ever got approved of in the first place. Who could have thought this was a great idea to make prisons for profit? so does this mean that less people will go to prison for stupid, petty things now that the profit will be taken out of the whole equation? I think this would be a good thing, if so. The US already has the most prisoners per capita in the world, correct? So, this would put an end to throwing so many in jail since the profit is no longer there, or am I think too logically or perhaps illogically? |

Private prisons could work fine if they were regulated to be NON-PROFIT only. Nope, there should be bids put out, with specific requirements for prisoner safety, healthcare, cleanliness, and feeding, with a Government agency (which knows the costs of the Federally operated prisons) deciding on which firm is the low bidder. The low bidder still has to make a profit, has to pay guards and employees, and all the associated costs of running the prison. If they can do it for less than the Government (which shouldn't be too difficult), then lets use them. _______________ They let me off with a warning and a couple of bullet holes. |
