She accepted responsibility for the horses. She fenced them in. Therefore, she is responsible for the regular welfare checks. Her staff would have become aware that the fences had been cut, wells turned off on the first day or two after occurance. It is blatantly obvious that they checks were not being done. Veterinarians and LEO are already on the case. Doesn't look good for Madeleine!!

Yep. Fenced in. With undependable water sources. In daily 90+ degree heat. She had directed her staff to check the animals no more than once a week(criminally negligent). The wild(according to you) animals had no way of leaving the enclosure on their own, in the event that the wells, water ponds failed. In what way is that responsible or humane?

This tragedy was discovered over the weekend. I have spoken to local authorities at length about it over the past few days. Madeleine's story has evolved in this time. The horses were discovered within/not far from their enclosure. So, if someone cut the fences hoping that they would run far away? Didn't happen. Whether or not the wells were turned off/were tripped during power surge/outage, who knows?

You have contributed some very interesting info throughout the thread, so I have referred the investigating authorities here. I hope you also get a chance to speak with them as you have some possible crucial input.

Re: Wild Horse Shenanigans - Management Into Extinction - UPDATED
Old fences in good repair are preferable to new fences erected without the horses in that enclosure knowing that a new fence has appeared where previous one was not there before. Sometimes horses will run through a new fence if they're spooked, or won't cross the barrier of an old fence even if it is cut or fallen over from some sort of natural occurrence.

On my visits throughout the western states, I've stopped to visit with wild equines, and have found them friendly enough to allow me to untangle the knots from their manes and tales. I realize this is just me and reflects my commitment to their welfare, from a previous agreement. For instance, if a watering tank or similar needed cleaning due to sediment build up, my reward was to take a dip or even to splash my face in the clean water afterwards, knowing that in the future some creature would be glad that the resource was there ready to provide for them yet again.

I'm welcome to be on the lands that I take care of because when I first came here, I didn't come to take anything. Apparently I was the first to do this in a very long time, thus a contract of caretaker was granted to me from the owners. Presented in this way, the position of caretaker might be allowed for someone who would assist in the care and welfare of these wild horses and burros, if a query were to be presented to the owners of the property.

It seems to me that livestock operations on lands in Nevada have always been a cover for more lucrative gold, uranium, gas, oil, or some other subsurface mineral extraction, as well as proposed solar energy projects. If wild horses are on the land, then other more lucrative special needs cannot occur. Getting the wild horses, mustangs, and burros off the land by whatever means would be indicated. I can assume that jobs are scarce in that region, and past higher paying jobs such as those offered by the BLM or other companies would have motive to do whatever was necessary to get all those horses off that land so that other uses for that land can go ahead.

Always remember, ultimately, to never follow any person's belief. Your relationship with God is between you and God.

If nothing else, remember this: religion = subservience, control and conformity, the same template as EVERY government

Nice try, you don't think for a second that my input here has anything to do against the sanctuary. Nor will it, but you provided some key info for me to use elsewhere for other reasons....lol. You shills need to step up your spin tactics to something less noticeable and less of a pattern over time. You are probably the same exact people who trolled me elsewhere online, blaming me for the deaths of the horses the BLM shot in the head and or failed to honor their own testimony in helping those they were supposedly there to help but truly hindered after the Cold Creek Roundup. Same exact feel in pathetic ignorance.

This story has typical BLM shenanigans via rancher terrorism written all over it.

The people that surround and encompass the opposition of the advocacy for the horses, the BLM and their rancher/horse slaughter friends, are a disgusting, pathetic lot. Why would a horse pasture have to hire security to protect horses? Just goes to show how far these people will go to protect their interests and ill gotten gains.

Ranchers used to be the proverbial "deep pocket" kings with the BLM, not anymore, and they are crabs in a bucket grasping onto what little they can as they realize they don't hold the top of the totem pole - lion's share-- anymore to the resource and mining industry's special interests...

Just thinking of how many millions of dollars have been spent to elect one of two people, and how many years of hay and feed some of that money could have been used for a real horse management program.

I know, it is so heartbreaking and infuriating when you truly think about it.

I tried for years to get into the program. At one point becoming an interagency volunteer. But once they caught wind of my advocacy I experienced nothing but shenanigans trying to get hired. Of course I thought I could change things from within.

The only way things will change is to fire them all and start a real horse management program as you suggest. But now it is almost dire as the herds have all been compromised and lack genetic diversity because of the massive culls that have taken place.

Most of these wild horses of today are literal representations of survival of the fittest in the species of horse and far from any definition of feral - though there are some that do get dumped by ranchers in the dark of the night.

Madeline was trying to help, regardless of what our resident shills try to make us believe. Anyone who invests that kind of money has their ducks in line. Something happened, my guess is from the inside. I hope others can see that these criminals are sick and will resort to tried and true criminal tactics to preserve their deep pocket livelihoods. (Tactics I personally experienced owning my own horse ranch in the 90's!) Their limelight days of being wined and dined by BLM employees are pretty much over - hence the disgusting desperation acts such as this will more than likely occur again and again. There is a new king of the range and it isn't a rancher or a horse or an antelope - more like a mining lobbyist as most of us on this website have already seen enough of....

Ranchers conspiring WITH the BLM to destroy your horses? Lol!!!! You are a special kind of paranoia tard aren't you?

The last two groups to work toward a common goal would be the BLM and ranchers. Does the name Bundy ring a bell? Or does the news reach you in LA?

If I am so unique in my paranoia, speak to the comments at the source of my original article. They all say the same. It is well known who the culprits of this crime most likely are, and they will be sought and dealt with accordingly.

I am not alone in my opinions and have facts to back me up. All you seem to have is a severe neglect of being a good neighbor to your neighbor Madeline Pickens, and most likely are complicit somehow in this crime, surmised from your knowledge of the investigation.

The shenanigans Madeline has encountered are well documented.

I used to ride on Warm Springs Ranch long before it became "Mustang Monument." They irritated hay fields teemed with wildlife. Hundreds of deer, pronghorn, some elk. Migratory birds, hawks, eagles. Not anymore. Nothing. Just a bunch of dust and hundreds of sick, starving horses. There is plenty of documentation of that. Even enough for a congressional hearing;-)

Cold Creek was a beautiful place with the horses there, now it is barren of wildlife. There is something to be said about harmonious ecosystems which involve a diverse wildlife, flora and fauna population. Something most BLM and ranchers know little about...

From Mad Madeleine's own press release:

"Again, Madeleine jumped to action and quickly made headway. In 2006 she met with Senator Harry Reid and Senator Dianne Feinstein and described her plans to start an eco-resort which works solely to benefit the Mustangs. Sen. Reid & Sen. Feinstein were supportive and asked Madeleine to go ahead and purchase the land, and then they would endorse the project. Madeleine purchased 900 square miles of land in Nevada. Henri Bisson, then head of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was also in support and "sanctioned the project" at the Wild Horse and Burro meeting in Reno on 17 November 2008.

Oh, the truths that are gonna come to light on this story!!!
