Leah and Rachel
Not the most stunning of historical side notes out of the Bible. This dastardly story of betrayal and stolen love comes straight from the Patriarchs.

What do you believe about these two? Which sister was really bad? Was Leah better than Rachel or was Rachel really bad and deserved to be punished.

I would have left if my sister had taken the man I loved. Poor Rachel.

I think this is a disgusting story and I think that Jacob acted dishonorably overall.

Re: Leah and Rachel
Well, what actually happened was that Jacob had one wife and 3 adulterous affairs. He begat children with all the women, but had a favorite and he doted on the child of his favorite mistress.

The children of his wife and his other two mistresses decided they would fix the favorite child.

Jacob was told that his favorite child had died. He got to suffer the heartbreak that was truly his for taking 3 mistresses.

Sorry Bun Bun, but there is nothing in the Old Testament that says having more than one wife is a sin. Jacob was blessed by the Lord. So were Jacob's wives. From both of Jacob's wives came the tribes of Israel.

In fact Bun Bun is you read in the Old Testament.... if a man died, his brother was supposed to take his wife! This is the story of Judah's sons and Tamar.

Yes it is weird Bun Bun, but that is the way it was back then.

Re: Leah and Rachel
If it was such a blessing, then why did God make a rule that men weren't to marry sisters after that?

See, men gloss over this whole affair, but it was a really horrible thing to do to Rachel. She was stolen from. Jacob was her man. She saw him first and loved him.

She was stolen from in all of this. It is Rachel who deserves the apology.

The mistress slaves also deserve an apology because they shouldn't have been brought into the mix. It is wrong to have sex with a servant who cannot say no.

I think this story is very sick. It is shameful.

More old testament fables and mythology, none of those wonderful chosen people left so much as an IOU record and none are mentioned or found in any other history.

The thing about history is that everyone sees it and it doesnt just have only one dubious self serving source.

The old testament was written to justify declaring all others invalid and unworthy of any boundries to promote invasion, destruction and extermination by one tribe of cutthroats and thieves only.
The book serves no other purpose and teaches no other philosophy

Re: Leah and Rachel
Just remember...

Jesus came through the bloodline of Judah, who was Leah and Jacob's 4th son.

Judah is where we get the words Judea and even "Jew".

So praise God for Leah.

Jesus also came through the bloodline of Rahab, the harlot from Jericho.

Anyway, I'm starting to get sidetracked... what I'm saying is God is awesome and loves us and can use us, no matter who we are, or where we are, God is still able and willing to reach down and allow us to be a part of His plans!!!

And God had plans for Leah, Rachel, Bilhah, and Zilpah because all of the children of Israel (Jacob) came from them, and to this day the whole world remains blessed because of that huge family!!!

Re: Leah and Rachel
Bun there is a theory that Rachel was Rh neg and had a hard time conceiving, hence the long gap between the two sons. And the viral need for those mandrakes to boost a lagging fertility.

Jacob made his tent with her and only *visited* the other wives. It is not out of the realm of the possible they conceived and miscarried (jaundiced) other children. If he wanted more children, he would have naturally mated his other brides.

Jacob married two sets of sisters, the handmaidens were sisters also.

God in his wisdom understood the how and the why that the female grandchildren of Leah should marry the male grandchildren of Rachel, (Benjamin's six kids). so they could safely have children in spite of recessive RH neg genetics.

Not only did Leah's line give us Gad (Scotland), Reuben (France) but also Dan (Celts). Dinah's daughter line married into Joseph's grandson line.

So maybe Jacob and Rachel did not get their fairytale love life due to Laban's conniving genius. But their great grandchildren later intermarried and got to rekindle that initial soulmate romance for multiple generations.

Rachel is very much grieved and cherished for her sacrifice for Leah.

^^^ what the above poster said, they were all victims of the father, incl Jacob

Consider, that Leah was super fertile, had no trouble conceiving, even tho they were not deeply in love.

her grand daughters inherited that trait, of easy conception & births

The great grand sons of Rachel via Joseph and Benjamin passed the inherited beauty of the mother line on down and thus her genetics were preserved tho she died in mid life in childbirth. She wanted another child with Jacob so bad, she sacrificed her life over it.

The old saying goes "the chalice is saved in the sacs of Benjamin"(sperm)

Leah was the more mother earth type, Rachel was slim hipped and childbirth was an ordeal for her. Tho she was the physically more beautiful of the two sisters.

Its Princess "Leah" but its Queen Rachel, does that make sense?

Both sisters were necessary to create enough children to establish Israel.

The bible is filled with names places and events that were proven correct with the archaeology digs from the past unto today. Research old journals from the website 'jstor.org' or 'Biblical Archaeology Review'. Read historical books that you can find at 'archive.org'. Don't you agree that the Hittite empire existed? The bible talks about it.

3000 years has passed, what on earth do you expect to find? The old libraries had plenty of business contracts, i bet you can find an IOU. I like exploring old west ghost towns from the 19th century. Sometimes you are lucky to find some rusty nails and horse shoes. Now add 3000 years!

The main theme of the bible is salvation thru Jesus shed blood.Period. Unless somebody has an agenda, which is historically true (Rome Inc.).

Of course these people lived. The Levites were the priest/rabbi tribe.

They were so METICULOUS in their brides that they preserved the DNA to this day among the surname Cohen, hence the Cohannim. Google it.

Leah's mitochondrial DNA is interspersed throughout the 12 tribes. Think of them as four founding mothers. Now go read up on the genetics of Genghis Khan and how many living descendants he has!
