OK - I have a question and maybe some of you amateur astronomers might have the answer.

Given the angular difference between the solar ecliptic plane and the galactic plane of the Milky Way (along with the object discussed in the OP's link) and the fact that the Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy (SagDEG) has an angle of inclination similar to our own solar system, is it possible that our system was once part of SagDEG and was simply captured by the Milky Way in a previous collision?

Some years back there were a series of threads here pointing out EMPHATICALLY that, contrary to popular belief, WE ARE NOT in the Milky Way, but ON A COLLISION COURSE with it.

If I am not mistaken, the consideration was that we were coming upon it rather soon.

This was the first thing I thought of when I startex reading this thread.

If anyone would like to see that info, I'd be happy to see if I can locate them.

Perfect - thanks EM - I see that it looks like my hunch was correct. If that is the case, then it's possible the force vector affecting the heliosphere (discovered by the IBEX satellite) may very well be a part of this too.

I've seen stuff hinting that bright white sun is not the same yellow one we remember. The Mayan calendar spanned the cycle that SagD took to bring us back to the Milky Way, whose arms consist of material captured in past cycles.

I always wondered why our planets didn't line up with the rest of the galaxy.
