1st Somali-American Legislator In US Elected In Minneapolis, Defeating Longest Serving Politician In Minnesota

Here's part of an article on tonights primary election in Minnesota-

In a three-way Democratic race for a Minneapolis seat, longtime state Rep. Phyllis Kahn is looking to extend her 44-year career in the Legislature.

But history awaits if Kahn loses, too. A win for either of her challengers in the reliably liberal district would likely lead to the election of the nation's first Somali-American lawmaker.

The longest currently serving politician in Minnesota, comes in third to two Somali-Americans.

The leader Ilhan Omar will face Republican candidate Abdimalik Askar, also a Somali-American.

As Minneapolis resident, I'd make a couple comments. Phyllis Kahn is jewish woman originally from Brooklyn. She's a good politician, alot of fun, alot of biting comments from her, kind of Bernie Sanders-esque, with her Brooklyn accent and all. But after 44 years, the voters kind of get tired of that schtick. They'd rather go with Somali Muslims over her.

I can anticipate what the reaction might be to the first Somali legislator in the US on GLP. To head that off, as a longtime Minneapolis resident, if I see a Somali on the street, in their Muslim attire, the thought of crime doesn't come much to mind. Where with certain young black males, hispanics, and whites, you need more vigilance than you would with the Somali's. Somali's simply aren't a big part of the crime problem in Minneapolis. Also, was thinking the other day when I saw some Asian guy with a sign of a highway exit asking for money, of all the people of all ethnicities I've seen begging for money over the years, none of them have been overtly Somali or Muslim.

Anyways, these primary results have kinda rocked the political establishment in Minnesota tonight.
