I just don't give a fuck User ID: 60052792 United States 08/02/2016 09:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is bullshit. I got the same email. I don't text(by choice), and the nearest SS office is 50 miles from me. I don't receive SS yet, but maybe I'd like to check on it without driving 100 miles round trip. Quoting: Ozark Granny Something is 'fishy' ... If you do not have a text-enabled cell phone or you do not wish to provide your cell phone number, you will not be able to access your my Social Security account. sure is fishy.....imposing such hoops for the elderly to jump through to access their own accounts is despicable. and all under the guise of "safety and security". won't be long until similar measures are imposed to access online banking/accounts, email, internet, credit card accounts etc..... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 70637464 United States 08/02/2016 10:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dont Use My Social Security to do anything. If you need to see if they deposited money into your account at the bank just call your bank or look at your bank account online. Also if you need to change something on your SS, I would not do it over the internet anyway. Things get so screwed up as it is, I would just go there and change what needed to be changed. Right now there is a few things you can still do, BUT... I agree with Granny, its probably just the beginning of the jump through hoops to get your money BULLSHIT. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 71202871 United States 08/02/2016 10:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just found out today by going to my account. TOTAL and utter BULLSHIT! I do not have a texting phone nor do I want one. Now I am denied my right to access MY information because I don't have or want to text? How illegal is this shit huh?? I am going to file a complaint with the ACLU today for denial of access. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72016321 Finland 08/02/2016 11:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here it's been like that for a long time already. It's next to impossible to get a bank account, for instance, if you don't have a cell phone number and a valid e-mail address. Without net access everything becomes impossible. Face-to-face services at the tax office, for social services or in banks are hardly available anymore, or they cost extra. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 72695124 United States 08/02/2016 11:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I will be able to collect SS soon. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72712153 I dont want to give them my cell or bank acct Do they still mail out checks to a PO Box? or home address? SS if I'm not mistaken has been hacked in the past. I know many peoples SS numbers have been. SS only does direct deposit. If you want to protect your bank account, I would set up a separate account for depositing SS amounts, then move it over to an account that isn't linked to SS. So, if something does happen, you won't be totally cleaned out. |

This one wants all your SS info to rob your account. Again, government agencies contact people via U.S. MAIL. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 70547102 United States 08/02/2016 01:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I haven't received an email either and I'm on SS. This makes me think it's a scam to steal a person's bank accounts. I've never been asked by SSA for my email address either. Any dealings I've had with SSA has always been through the U.S. mail. |
