My ancestors were Protestants who fled the carnage of the 30 years war on the Rhine. Google "poor Palatines". They also fought every revolutionary war on this continent.

Try tracing your surname back I already knew my relation to the crusades ...But knowing your heritage before they do helps , don't think they have no idea of descendents because they do mine have been well documented over that period of time and easily traceable ,so I know what would happen to me , also I still have a very military style about me as we have all been in .. So bring it on I say

It would seem they did.

In Acre, the main port city of the Latin East there was a church set up after the Third Crusade in the suburb of Montmusard (built 1192-1212) dedicated to St Brigid of Kildare. Matthew Paris in the mid 13th century mentions the presence of English and Irish there.

Quite likely people joined up for the Third Crusade (1189-1192), or maybe the Fifth (1217-1221), or even the Baron's Crusade (1238-1241).

Cant think of any actual named crusaders.....not sure about the charter evidence there.......but if the establishment of specific churches and the communities they serve and who operate them is indicative, then it appears there were a few.

In 1255 Pope Innocent IV instructed, in a letter to the Bishops of England, Ireland and Gascony to excommunicate those who had taken the cross but had failed to go yet, and encourage others to do so.

Templars and Hospitallers were quite active in Ireland.....as everywhere else for that matter. Undoubtedly the usual MO of interacting with local aristocracies and familia networks to gather support, finance and recruits.

Dumb ass.

the crusades occured about 1,000 years ago.
That's about 30 generations ago.

2^30 is a billion ancestors.
Now, given you are white, I will divide that by 4 due to incest.

That's about 250 million ancestors and you found the ONE that was in the Crusades. What a crock of shit.

The family tree becomes filled with question marks as it approaches 1066.

I guess the Domesday book helped, but even where names were known, there were alternate spellings.

History books say my ancestors were considered to be common and greedy, which sounds like code words for Jews.

I was recently surprised to find they made a television series about them: The White Queen.

Re: Who else on GLP can trace their Ancestors back to the Crusades...
My descendents are from the Dijonnais region , we have a Coat of Arms and a family crest ..During the Crusades our ancestors were recognised and handsomely rewarded with land ,money and property ie Manor ..

I know there are definately some descendents of the Crusades here , speak up now or for ever hold your peace ....

Are you scared mammas boy ...No names mentioned mine is easily traced anyway and I would definately get it ... But they have the lists we don't . What you gonna do be a man or a mouse if suddenly you found out they were hunting you because your ancestor was more of a man or woman than you , after all they would actually know anyway even if you don't .
