Archaeologist Jose Manuel Escudero said the space had been reused by the Inca, but there is no evidence at this time that they took it over by force. The cave-like tombs within the adobe pyramid contain human remains and pottery. The remains of men holding spiked spondylus shells were found in five of the tombs. One of the bodies in another tomb had been wrapped in more than four shrouds and set on a bed of ceramic pieces. One of these shrouds had been quilted. “You’re not going to bury an ordinary person that way,” Escudero said. He thinks burial in the Pyramid of the Bees may have held “great significance for them to be buried there.” To read more about ritual in the Inca Empire, go to "The Water Temple of Inca-Caranqui." |

Ed Yong: One of the themes in "I Contain Multitudes" is that it's a microbial world — we're just living in it. Microbes have been around for billions of years. They were the first organisms on the planet, and they had the full run of it well before we arrived on the scene. Humans and other animals evolved in a world that was already teeming with microbes — we evolved to make use of that, and we evolved to live within it. In the book, I talk about how microbes shape the guts of fish and mice and other organisms, and throughout, I was interested in the question of why that should be. Why have we outsourced these important aspects of our lives? I think the answer is that there was no other choice. For a long time, people feared microbes; we thought of them as germs to be destroyed. Now, there's a counter narrative of microbes as being friendly and beneficial. I think the truth lies in the middle — these are organisms that don't have our interests at heart. They're living out their own lives. Sometimes, that aligns with our interests, and sometimes it doesn't. We know gut microbes are critical for digestion, for training the immune system, and for helping to control growth and the development of our organs. But if they cross the lining of the gut and get into the bloodstream, the very same bacteria can cause inflammation and sepsis [a potentially life-threatening complication of an infection] and all kinds of problems. Biochemically the indoleamine molecule is derived from the amino acid tryptophan.[9] Serotonin is primarily found in the enteric nervous system located in the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). However, it is also produced in the central nervous system (CNS), specifically in the Raphe nuclei located in the brainstem. Additionally, serotonin is stored in blood platelets and is released during agitation and vasoconstriction, where it then acts as an agonist to other platelets.[10] Serotonin is popularly thought to be a contributor to feelings of well-being and happiness. |

The complication from the camp was the leader fell off the trail and broke her foot. Thinking kids are better suited at entertaining themselves within deprevation and the adult will stay strong through it until after the experience will loose it if not careful. |
