I'm pretty sure this isn't the case although I'm pretty sure you wish it were the case.

You can have a thread filled with as many well-meaning intellectuals as you like but it would not be long before it descended into a slanging match. Nothing to do with anybody being paid and everything to do with people trying to enforce their opinions and beliefs onto others..

Thanks for the title of the book. Can you give me a synopsis or idea of the premise of the book and why you recommend it? I found it at archive but it didn't seem to provide a book description of any kind.

Well, it appears the poster here who actually say who REALLY owns this site get banned. That should tell you something right there. I saw a post here that claimed GLP was part of a company world-known for creating propaganda and mind-control scenarios and technology. I'll leave it to you to figure out which one this is. Hint. They are based in London...

I think we are in agreement. To clarify, I too do not think reading long books is the only way to learn. Part of the reason I like discussing books or documentaries with others however is that the book itself or the documentary itself can be the object of discussion rather than two people just sharing opinions back and forth and taking it personal when someone doesn't see the world as they do. Not that just having a conversation isn't beneficial too, but discussing a book or movie allows two people to distance themselves a little so the disagreement is with the author/producer and not directly with each other per se. Two people can simply say, I agree with the author on this, but not on that rather than, "I think your wrong!" which can be much more offensive.

The Durants were great in their time, but they are painfully un-PC in many places. Their turn on Asian cultures is particularly cringe worthy.

However, on the Eurocentric stuff they are unmatched. The treatment of the age of the enlightenment in France is superb.

Want to have fun? Read Churchill's histories of ww II. Funny and fucking tragic in turns.

You would be best off just reading Aristotle and Aquinas for a few years. Seriously.

Our whole (modern) concept of good and evil, the nature of evil, has been coloured by these documents literally demonising the Roman culture and way of life. Now largely taken out of context the New Testament especially Revelation has been used as again a political tool to control the minds of the plebs to (unconsciously) a) despise money and worldly progress in general b) keep people in fear of thinking for themselves.

Yeah, you came to the wrong place.

Unfortunately, this seems to be true.

It is supposedly a CIA assisted book which looks at the history of alien contact, the round wing planes, german ufo tech, the inner earth and neuschwaben land.

Its is written as fact, using historical figures and events. I have read a few books of this ilk and this one is by far the best in terms of both writing style and the information contained within.

I make no claims for the accuracy of the information contained within it but i did feel myself believing much of what is written.

Those are some great topics that I personally wouldn't mind discussing with you. In fact I'd enjoy it. Having said that, it's probably a little off topic for this thread. If you want to start a new thread or private message me directly I'd enjoy discussing this with you.

Walter Russell's books look promising. It's a shame they don't appear to be available in kindle format and are fairly expensive to purchase. The topics of a few intrigue me.

Anytime some stuff starts getting to the point of critical thinking, and there might be an "awakening" to what's really happening. The trolls flood that thread leaving those who were reaching the critical point disheartened.
That's how it works here. In case you haven't really noticed it.
I'll admit, I troll on some post that deal with religion, but not any of the other threads. Because religion has nothing to do with critical thinking, but instead is just the opposite, it's leads to dumbing down.

There is a fair amount of that is going on via AI programs and AC posts.
You can spot them after a while.
There is a consistency to them.

As for the "real stories" and discussion that belong on GLP.
They are still going on, you just have to look for them.

Keep in mind though....
The USA is in a final battle for good over evil.
Politics matter because they affect everything else so deeply now.
Consider the analogy....if you have no food to eat, you are not going to be talking about esoteric things like UFO's and aliens when there is nothing to eat.
You focus on the food....and survival

The USA is in a battle for it's very survival and if it is not fixed politically, monetarily and economically there is
little point in even considering other topics of discussion while the USA is "starving" and in survival mode.

Good point on the AI bots auto posting as Anonymous Coward. Makes sense that would be somewhat easy to to. I'll look for consistency to see if I pick up on that.

Reading them on scribd works. There are other places too where you can grab them or read them.

I only buy some things once in a while.

Having been Hotel California'd here since 2002, I can vouch for our brother GLPer's insights.

There used to be a good many cracking discussions and debates of truly mind-stretching high quality back when.

Something to do with Emperor Kent's ever courteous, genial and scholarly good influence I would say. He was the originator of GLP.

Since then we've lost a host of solid people from ennui, attrition and plain old death. We now seem to have a slew of posters who were toddlers when the forum got underway and have no clue that this is anything but a place to catcall and hold barely intelligible slanging matches.

It's very disheartening sometimes/often. But one lives in hopes that we may rekindle some of GLP's former erudite glory.

A book club would be very interesting. Though right here online in full show would be better than PMing as far as I can see.

I agree that the discussion should be in the forum vs. PM. My comments inviting some to PM's are on topics I know will draw in more trolls. I'd rather have those types of conversations in private. But yes, the book discussion should be public for the benefit of others who might enjoy the discussion.

So I did it again, I bought a book deciding it was a good starter only to check out the preface which reads:

"It is also useful to read the books Earth Under Fire and Genesis of the Cosmos, as they provide background material essential to understanding the pulsar message."

So now I question the choice of this book as a starting point when the author points out at the beginning that it builds upon other books he's written which I have not read. :(

Sounds fun

After purchasing the book "Decoding the Message of the Pulsars" and reading the first few pages I have determined that this probably isn't the best book to start with. Right off the bat the book was talking about all kinds of scientific research for which I have no real background and flipping through the pages it was lots of math and formulas that, while interesting, would likely make most of us armchair philosophers incapable of agreeing or disagreeing with the scientific logic on any real knowledgeable basis.

I am currently reviewing a book I own both in print and kindle format as a possible candidate. I bought the book originally in paperback format but after getting home with it and reading only a few pages I had so many things I wanted to highlight and talk about that I bought the Kindle version to make copy and paste easier.

The book I'm considering now has a TON of different topics all mashed together. It's basically a survey or overview of modern esoteric topics from aliens to paranormal and the occult. In fact, the one drawback to the book may be that it covers TOO many topics. Having said that, we wouldn't run out of things to discuss just reading this one book alone.

I'm going to thumb the book heavily today and determine if the book is something I can see working for a forum discussion group and if so, I'll start a new thread announcing the book and basic guidelines of a moderated discussion.
