Vance Joy’s “Riptide” Music Video – Massive Occult Symbolism – Frame by Frame

For you researchers out there, the “Riptide” music video was directed by Dimitri Basil and Laura Gorun. Basil is a Colombian-born director who went to film school in Australia before relocating to London, where he worked on videos with various collaborators. Gorun, who appears in the clip as a singer, is one of those collaborators. She is a Romanian-born director/actress who previously teamed up with Basil on the video for “Foreign Language” by Flight Facilities.

The director of the music video chose to include a lot of occult symbolism. Why? According to Dimitri basil:

“Most people are trying to be very arty and avoid being literal at all,” Basil said in a video commentary. “So I thought, ‘Let’s do the complete opposite and be as literal as possible. I think it worked because the lyrics are so absurd.” In some places, the lyrics are subtitled on the screen… incorrectly. This was done on purpose.”

We’ll review those incorrect words later…

So we are told by the director of the video that the symbolism in the video is merely trying to take the words literal because the lyrics are so absurd. Not sure how the artist feels about being told his lyrics are absurd, but then again, many of the lyrics do not make sense in light of the artists own explanation that it’s just about an affair with a taken woman.

Before I launch into the occult interpretations I want to point out that it is very possible the song artist did not have an occult meaning behind the song. People write absurd lines all the time. There is a strong argument to be made that the song is actually about an affair he had with a married or taken woman who runs away to meet him at the “Riptide” hotel where they have their affair. After all, that’s what the artist himself basically tells us. In this interpretation the “left hand man” is a reference to a man waiting in the wings. His affair with her could help her get “unstuck” from her marriage or relationship. It is also possible the director used the “absurd” song to sneak in his own occult interpretation. It is also possible the artist himself explained what the song was REALLY about and asked the director to sneak the symbolism in there for those who know what to look for. Whatever the actual meaning of the song is or isn’t, it is clear the directors clearly put an occult spin on the song with the video. Now to the analysis.

Below I will discuss what I see (and what I think I’m missing) frame by frame. I have included the time marker in the still frame so you can reference it for yourself as well. At the very start of the video we have our first clue that this is going to have hidden or occult meaning. (see image link)

At the bottom of the opening frame we see a string of characters which looks a lot like a movie disclaimer. It reads:

“The Mystifying moving picture oracle and it’s hexagrams “the sky” “the dentist” “the swinging lamp” “The Girl” “Book of Changes” “The Fools” “The Dollar” “The Magician” “The Portal” “The Ocean” “The Running Cowboy” “Rear Window” “The Lemon” “The Board” The Confuse Woman” “The Gun” “The Blade” “The Riptide” are trademarks for the talking video set of VJ

VJ above of course is “Vance Joy”

In this opening frame we are told that the entire music video is a “moving picture oracle”.

A quick search of the internet will reveal that an “Oracle” is defined as:

1) a priest or priestess acting as a medium through whom advice or prophecy was sought from the gods in classical antiquity.
2) a response or message given by an oracle, typically one that is ambiguous or obscure.

The very DEFINITION of “oracle” states that the message is typically ambiguous or obscured. In other words it is hidden (or occulted). The implication here is that the music artist
(Vance Joy) or the video director (Dimitri Basil) sees himself as a “oracle” giving a message that is ambiguous or obscure. We are also being told that this oracle will be revealed to us as a series of “hexagrams”.

A hexagram is a six pointed star formed by two triangles (one representing male energy and the other representing female energy. “Magik” is performed by manipulating the male and female aspects of energy to cast “spells”. The act of casting spells is also called a “hex”. To “hex” someone is to cast a spell on them either for good or bad or to cast a magic spell or curse. In other words, the director is telling us the message or oracle we will see will be hidden in symbolism.

The rest of the opening string of characters gives us clues to look for in sequential order. I am going to enumerate them here as hexagrams (A-R) so we can refer to them later in each frame as they come up:

• Hexagram A “the sky” as seen by the bright blue sky in the first frame.
• Hexagram B will be the “the dentist,”
• Hexagram C will be the “swinging lamp”
• Then Hexagram D is the “Girl,”
• Then Hexagram E is the “Book of Changes,”
• Hexagram F is the “Fools”
• Hexagram G is the “Dollar”
• Hexagram H is the “Magician”
• Hexagram I is the “Portal”

Hexagram A “the sky”

Hexagram A has already begun with the blue sky. A bird flies into the center of the frame and then flies off the left side of the frame. The “left handed” theme will play throughout the entire video as things frequently face the left side of the frame or move off to the left side of the frame. (see bird in center of the frame in the below image)

A brief Google search on the phrase left hand path will reveal:
The terms Left–Hand Path and Right-Hand Path refer to a dichotomy between two opposing approaches found in Western esotericism, which itself covers various groups involved in the occult and ceremonial magic.

Wicca may be seen by many as the “Right hand path” while the darker “Golden Dawn” current may be seen by some as the “Left hand Path”. Wicca tends to focus on peaceful “magik,” doing good to others and being one with nature. The Golden Dawn has been accused of secretly summoning demons and controlling powerful dark entities for power. This is somewhat of a simplification but in general the “left hand path” refers to a darker form of magic. The song could be interpreted as a man singing to a woman about them both being “magicians” or practitioners of magic. She may be seen as following the right hand path and he will be her “left hand man” practicing darker forms of magic. We’ll examine that more closely in later frames.

Hexagram B “The Dentist”

I’ll be honest and say I am not sure the symbolism here but we know that it is listed as an important image in the “moving oracle” and is the second “hexagram”. The woman appears terrified. The song lyrics during this frame state “I was scared of dentists and the dark.” If the song or video is about the artists own journey into the occult this opening may be a reference to his “childlike” condition before studying the occult when, like a child, the artist feared things like the dentist and the dark. I almost get the impression the “magician” in this video is practicing a form of “dark” magic (also known as the left handed path) and expressing that dark things used to scare him but not anymore.

Hexagram C “The Swinging Lamp”

Again, the symbolism escapes me at the moment but we are told this is the next image to pay attention to. The line of the song is still talking about “dentists and the dark”. We’ve seen the dentist therefore this seems to represent the dark. The swinging lamp may also represent a pendulum used to hypnotize someone as depicted later in the video.

I understand that doubters will think this is a total stretch at this point. I have to mention it however because it is listed as one of the hexagrams. The best is yet to come. Does anyone have some added meaning I’m missing on this frame?

Hexagram D “The Girl”

Once again, I’m not sure the significance of this frame yet. The song lyrics at this point say “I was scared of pretty girls….”

I’m missing the frame for this one and will likely update this thread with it later. It does not appear to add anything of significance but maybe someone will see something I don’t.

Hexagram E “The Book of Changes”

Here then is the image relating to the “Book of Changes’. It is the book “Techniques of Photographing Girls”. Not entirely sure the meaning here either. Literally it may suggest the artist overcame his fear of pretty girls by becoming interested in photography. If this refers to the director himself, perhaps he was once timid with girls and went into photo/film as a way to get around pretty girls. A more “hidden” meaning may simply be that there is some book (not clear which) that turned around the artists fear of the dark occult and changed everything for him.

Esoterically, the hand position with the spread fingers on the book seems to be significant though I’m not sure why yet. Also the hand happens to be the “left hand”. Perhaps the obscured meaning is that some book about the left hand path changed everything for the artist. The lyrics at this point continue the line “I was scared of pretty girls..” and resumes at this frame with “…and starting conversations.” The book suggests the magician has studied how to become more confident. It is the book that starts the changes in his life.

Hexagram F is the “Fools”

Here we are introduced to the “Fools” of this video. I believe this man in the video may actually be the director himself, Dimitri Basil. The shot below is VERY similar to a still from a music video by Snakadaktal (another Australian music artist) where Dimitri appears in his own video there as well. Compare the shot from “Riptide” below to the shot from Fall Underneath by Snakadaktal and note all the similarities. In both videos Dimitri and a blonde girl are standing in front of a building with Dimitri wearing round glasses.

In the “Riptide” video something happens suddenly that causes them both to look at the camera in surprise. Notice Basil pushes his glasses up with one finger just as he does in the Fall Underneath video (compare images below).

Esoterically this may refer to the occult concept of the “third eye”. In the occult the “third eye” is the location of occult knowledge and is often represented by a third eye between the eyes.

According to Wikipedia:

“The third eye (also known as the inner eye) is a mystical and esoteric concept referring to a speculative invisible eye which provides perception beyond ordinary sight.”

As a final note, one of the lines in the song “Fall Underneath” by Snakadaktal is “I don’t know if there are treasures in the ocean”. It is worth nothing that “Riptide” frequently shows shots of the ocean. Remember, Vance Joy said in an interview that he felt like this song was like “catching a fish out of the ocean” Sounds a little like a treasure in the ocean in the song Fall Underneath.

“I did have a good feeling about the song, an intuition. I knew it was special. It’s got a certain spark to it, it connects with people,” Joy toldNews.com.au. “I’m really grateful for it. It’s such a valuable thing for me to have written that song. I can’t believe it came out of me. I was lucky to channel it, I feel like I snagged this fish out of the ocean.”

Hexagram G is the “Dollar”

The “Dollar” hexagram appears with the line of the song, “All my friends are turning green”. Depicted is the back of the one-dollar bill which by itself is rife with occult symbolism such as the all seeing eye of Horus above the pyramid, the hexagram of stars floating above the eagles head, the number 13 (an occult number) of arrows clutched in the claws of the eagle, and more. Many websites document in detail the occult symbolism on the dollar bill and the occultists who put the symbols there.

Hexagram H “The Magician”

The “Magician” is here symbolized. I still see in the song that the singer is himself the magician or maybe the director. In esoteric tradition the Queen of Spades is equivalent to the Queen of Swords in the Tarot. Traditionally it deals with one’s intellect and judgement free from emotions. The lyrics at this point in the song say “You’re the magician’s assistant in their dreams.” In my speculation that the song could be about two people practicing magic this could simply mean that the magician has a female counterpart whom he views as his assistant. But the real meaning seems to be darker.

In 1949 there was a movie produced titled “The Queen of Spades”. In the movie a woman sells her soul to the devil for the power to win at cards and an army officer obsessed with the cards murders her for her secret power. The woman’s spirit then haunts him afterwards.

Below the woman appears to be striking a magical pose.

Hexagram I The “Portal”

There are several interesting images that go by during the Hexagram known as the “Portal” and I’m not entirely sure which is the most key of images. First there is this:

Once again I see the woman depicted with a fire wand, a symbol of a magician. She may be representing the Queen of Wands here from the Tarot. It is as if to suggest that she too is a user of magic (perhaps the one following the right hand path). She sees a man and a woman walking in the dark and she motions them to come to her but when they look back to her she’s vanished (through a portal)?

Then we see the woman tied up to a tree in the woods. She is wearing a white blindfold and tied in ropes. We will see this same symbolism again later on in the video when we are shown some tarot cards.

Let’s look at the tarot image from later in the video now (seen below). Note that the first card in the spread below is the “fool”. Hexagram F was “The Fools”. The next card is the VIII of Swords which I believe is being depicted in the frame above (note the red shirt she is wearing and the red dress in the card, the white blindfold and the white ropes are the same as well). The traditional interpretation of the VIII of Swords is that the woman has a way out of her predicament but she can’t see it because she is blindfolded and can’t see in front of her. It is also sometimes interpreted as a woman who surrenders her will to an unseen entity.

The song lyrics say “and they come unstuck”. The girl frees herself (symbolically becoming unstuck) and the next frames of the girl she is making a run for it. She has found a way out and is running down to the riptide.

Hexagram J the “Ocean”

We cut now to a scene of the ocean from above as the main course of the song comes in about running to the riptide. Note again the order of the Tarot cards later on. The third card in the spread is the “moon” card. The moon card in the Tarot is often associated with the element of water and of course we know that our world’s ocean tides are effected by the pull of the moon. A riptide is literally a strong current caused by a moon’s tidal pull on the ocean in a confined space like an inlet. The moon card may also represent the “right hand path” of magic known as Wicca as Wicca is particularly focused on the phases of the moon and the goddesses.

Next we hear the song lyrics, “…taken away to the dark side” and we see a woman sleeping who awakens from a nightmare as something pulls her out of her bed into the shadows.

The main chorus continues, “I want to be your left hand man.” We see the following image of a left hand holding the mic with the word “left” displayed:

One possible meaning I get is that the woman is currently following the right hand path of the moon or Wicca but this “magician” wants to be her “left hand man” or the dark counterpart to her magic. He pulls her to the “dark side”. The hand holding the microphone here is a male hand and the left hand is holding the mic while the word “Left” flashes on screen.

Next we see a woman holding the same mic. Her make up is done well and she appears happy and alert. As we will review later, her visage will slowly change as the song progresses and she is symbolically pulled to the dark side. Also the first time we see her there are no subtitles below her but the next time we see her she will have subtitles below as she sings which will draw our attention to some peculiar symbolism.

It is worth noting that the singer in this video is actually none other than one of the co-directors of this video, Romanian born Laura Gorun. Among collaborating with the other director Dimitri Basil she also stared in a film titled the “Karmik Self Annihilation Methods”. The plot summary of that film from IMDB is”

“Henry Pointcare finds a way of communicating with a dimension grave beyond. The method manifests itself as an exponential growth of error or a pathetic mind joke.”

A quick google search of Henry Pointcare will come up with the name Henri Poincare. According to Wikipedia, Henri Poincare was a French mathematician, theoretical physicist and philosopher of science. This might be significant considering a later frame we will be discussing. Of his many contributions he is known for his work in Celestial mechanics (astronomy, movement of planets, lunar theory, satellites, etc.)
As a point of interest, Laura Gorun is said to have learned to speak French in one month for a movie she was doing. A fictitious movie in the music video appears to be written by a French director, perhaps harkening to Henri Poincare.

Watch the woman’s mouth carefully. She is singing the words of the song right up to the line, “I’ve got a lump my throat ’cause you’re gonna sing the words wrong”. If you watch the formation of her tongue and lips you’ll see she doesn’t actually sing that. In other words, she is literally singing the words wrong. Later we will have subtitles to show us she is singing the wrong words here. In my theory of the video, the suggestion is that this left hand magician is excited to share magic with this woman but is concerned that she won’t do it right. She will perform the rituals wrong. She will “say the words wrong”. In the practice of dark magik, doing things wrong could have tragic consequences.

Next the song says, “There’s this movie that I think you’ll like” and we are shown an old VHS movie. The images are of race cars and the words are in what appears to be German. However, there are names of actors we can see on the back that list William J. Kulzer, Elizabeth Trosper, Shea Porter, Dianne Hinkler, Julius Metoyer, Terry Congie and Lee Bishop. Looking on IDMD a friend of mine found a 1986 movie titled “Shadows Run Black” staring Kevin Costner that lists all those same actors. You can see the movie in entirety



A brief synopsis of the movie from IMDB says:

“A detective investigates a series of killings committed by a serial killer known as “The Black Angel.” He begins to suspect that it might not be just a random group of murders.” One of the reviewers on the movie (which did not get good reviews btw) adds the following details about the film. The serial killer known as the “Black Angel” is also known as the “Co-Ed Killer” and the “Moral Vigilante”. He enjoys cutting up a group of co-eds who used to be hookers. The movie appears to have a lot of nude female victims dying horrible deaths including that of a porn start named Susanna Britton/Barbara Peckinpaugh. Of the murders listed the reviewer lists “a bloody stabbing, a head mashed in a car hood, a magician, a fat lesbian, a cello player and a visible boom mic.

The fact that the song says “here’s a movie you might like” might be a hint that the magician finds something significant in this movie but he’s hidden it from plain view by making the movie in the video look like a fake movie. You have to dig to find which movie it is he’s talking about. In fact, the plot he describes is of another movie so it’s unclear if the “movie you might like” is “Shadows Run Black” or Midnight Cowboy which is described further in a little bit. Then again, maybe the songwriter was referring to Midnight Cowboy but the director wanted to draw attention to “Shadows Run Black”.

Next the movie is quickly flipped over and we see the title of the movie is “Velocite”.

Then we see the VHS tape being put in a player. We see the director’s name is Jean Pierre Labridge. So far I have not been able to find any movie titled Velocite nor any person (director or not) named Jean Pierre Labridge. However, there is a director by the name of Jean Pierre Jeunet

who appears to have some interesting movies I’m going to dig into a little. Additionally, Jean Pierre Jeunet is apparently known for his closing credits where he shows images of all the actors during the credits. This appears to also be shown in the music video as we see images of the actors and their names scrolling by. The last name “Labridge” could be a clue “La” being a common form of “the” in french such that it might be saying this director is “the bridge” the ties things together. It should be noted that one of the directors of this film is Dimitri Basil who produced a short film called simply “The Bridge”.

It should be noted however that the plot of the movie the song describes is an actual movie plot titled the “Midnight Cowboy.” One of the “Hexagrams” coming up is the “Running Cowboy” in which we’ll discuss this further.

According to the song, the plot of the movie the song thinks his girl would like goes like this: “This guy decides to quit his job and head to New York City.” While I doubt this was intended, I can say a MASSIVE amount of conspiracy seems to always be tied to New York City.

Hexagram K “The Running Cowboy”

The movie “Midnight Cowboy” is a 1969 movie with John Voight and Dustin Hoffman about a male prostitute who dresses up like a cowboy and heads to New York City. During the film he struggles with homosexuality, allowing a man to blow him in a theater and once only getting erect for heterosexual sex when a woman suggests he must be gay. He seems to be in denial of his own desires and therefore is “running from himself” in a way.

Hexagram L “The Rear Window”

The next image which represents the “Rear Window” hexagram is a woman standing on her balcony looking through binoculars as the song says, “As she’s been living on the highest shelf”.
The “Rear Window” is a 1954 Alfred Hitchcock movie in which a wheelchair bound photographer spies on his neighbors and becomes convinced that one of them has committed murder. Near the beginning of this song we saw an image of the “Book of Change” titled “Techniques for photographing girls” thus trying in the photographer of the “Rear Window”. Also, the photographer in the “Rear Window” broke his leg filming an auto race. The fictional movie depicted in this music video is of auto racing.

The Chorus

As we begin the chorus of the song again we are shown various symbolic images of a man walking through a dark night with a flashlight. It seems he hears something and quickly looks to his left, flashing his flashlight off the left side of the screen.

What seem obvious is that there has to be a symbolic meaning for why the popsicle is made of two different colors. Perhaps it is this. In esoteric thought, red is the color of passion and energy and yellow is the color of intellect among other things as well as the color of death. Red therefore could again represent the right hand path while yellow represents the left hand path.

We briefly see the woman “running away to the riptide” again with the ocean in front of her and then we see this image of what appears to be a lifeless body being drug away into the dark as the song continues “taken away to the dark side”.

The next image going along with “I wanna be your left hand man” shows a man’s hands cutting a green plant with scissors in his left hand and the world “left” flashing again. The fingers of the right hand are positioned with three up front and one tucked behind, a potentially occult symbolism.

Chorus

The main chorus comes in again with the woman singing the words of the song but now she looks different. Her make up smeared and rough and subtitles appear below to draw attention to her lips. She appears drugged or in a dream like state.

Each time we see the woman from now on she will look worse which I believe is the artists way of showing that as he pulls her into the dark side to be her “left hand man” he is changing her. She is getting darker and messed up. As she gets to the line where he’s afraid “you’re going to sing the words wrong” we now see the subtitles say “You gone and sank the worlds wolf”. In other words, she is indeed saying the wrong words here.

Now the images come fast and furious during the chorus before the next “Hexagram” Such as the shot below which supposedly comes from the fictitious movie. The upper right corner shows a lot of numbers which may contain numerology I haven’t figure out yet. Considering all the symbolism here there should be significance to this frame.

In one of the frames of a television set showing the fictitious movie we see and image. The person in the lower right corner of the television set it believed to be Dimitri Basil, one of the co-directors of this video.

Then we are shown the Tarot cards we discussed earlier. By this point in the video the artist perhaps wants to make sure we are getting the occult symbolism of the video so he shows us tarot cards to make it obvious. We’ve discussed the first three cards. The final card is the Hanged Man. The card suggests a decision that is in the balance, things suspended temporarily and hanging in the balance. The “magician” taps his hand on the Hanged man twice drawing attention to it before the frame changes. I find this significant but don’t know exactly what it means. Also note on the second tap how the person tucks their thumb away under the rest of the fingers.

Next we are shown an open suitcase with lots of symbolism inside. A pack of Camel cigarettes, some Hawaiian tropic tanning oil, a Hawaain shirt with a logo from the ECC Group, a passport to Romania, a watch with the time 5:45 on it and some money that the magician or artist places in the suitcase in a peculiar way (watch the video). I’m still looking for the meanings. It might be noteworthy that one of the Directors of the video is Laura Goren. She is the woman who sings and who’s make up is getting messed up in the video through out. Laura Goren is from Romania and has worked on several collaborations with the other director of this video, Dimitri Basil.
There is a LOT of potential symbolism here and I’m missing most of it. I’d love it if some of my fellow students of these things have some ideas.

The suitcase is then closed and we see the initials J.A.G. A quick search of the initials J.A.G. comes up with a possible connection of James Garfrield, the second US president to be assassinated in office. However, I am not sure if this is the intended message as I haven’t tied the contents in with it.

Immediately following this I believe we get an an image of a book titled “The Bible Code” co authored by Eliyahu Rips (Riptide?), an Israeili Mathmatician. Scribbled on the page in the image are a bunch of mathematical formulas perhaps drawing attention to the Israeli mathematician Eliyahu Rips. The page here is written in Spanish but if you look closely you will see Hebrew letters which are circled to indicate hidden codes in the Hebrew text. Even without knowing Spanish you can see reference to Deuteronomy 31:20 and Numbers 24:14 along with words like Moses and Balaam.

It is interesting to note that Balaam is listed in the book of Numbers as being a pagan priest who used the practice of divination and whom received a vision from the Most High God to bless Israel. He was known as a magician of sorts. According to the Jewish Kabbalah tradition, Balaam was taught secrets of the occult by imprisoned angels in the mountains of the east. The Section the book is opened to is titled “The Waves of Matter” and may be related to the theme of the song “Riptide” which is also “waves”.

Perhaps it is significant that the figure number is figure 13 and for a brief second a finger covers the number 13 which is fitting occult significance since 13 represents something hidden. Something is going on here.

Next we are taken through a rapid succession of four images, each facing off to the left and as the camera pans left the entire time continuing the theme of “left hand man”. One of the “fools” is shown in the first image.

Lastly we see a girl as the lyrics say “The closest thing to Michelle Pfiefer that you’ve ever seen”.

As a side note, a university study was once conducted listed the mathematical measurements and proportions in the face that most reflect beauty. It was determined that the woman who had most of the characteristics of perfect beauty was Michelle Pfiefer. The same year this song came out Bruno Mars recorded Uptown Funk where he referred to Michelle Pfiefer as “that white gold”. So the line may simply mean this woman is the closest thing to perfect beauty that you’ve ever seen or there is a bigger connection between Michelle Pfiefer and the occult than we perhaps know. The girls in the frame turns and looks at the camera facing forward.

Next we see the “Lady” running down to the “riptide” across the sand then back to a shot of the ocean followed by this image of a woman being hypnotized. The short scene ends with her eyes wide open and in a trance like state. Notice here the woman is being hypnotized by watching a swinging pendulum.

Hexagram M the “Lemon”

Enter Hexagram M, the “Lemon”. While the “lemon” is green and at first looks like a lime, it may in fact be an unripened lemon. According to witchipedia.com ( [link to www.witchipedia.com] ):

“Lemons resonate with the energy of the moon and the element of water. Lemons can be used to celebrate lunar deities and lemonade is especially good for summertime rituals. Lemon juice is purifying and cleansing and can be used to that capacity in ritual, try using it as an asperge or using lemon bath products in your ritual bath. Lemon leaf can be added to a bath tea for the same purpose. Either lemon oil can be added to wash water, or lemon leaf can be steeped in it to cleanse your home. Lemon flowers are used in love spells and the rind can be added to baked goods prepared with loving intent. The fruit can be used to turn away harmful spells or the evil eye.”

So here again is symbolism suggesting the magicians “lady” practices the right hand path or Wicca. This is represented by images of the moon and ocean tides (riptide). But here the “Left hand man” rips the lemon out of the tree. This may be symbolic of the magician again taking her away to the “dark side” or removing her projections against evil. As the word “Left” flashes on the screen he uses his left hand to yank it violently from the tree.

Hexagram O the “Confuse Woman”

The “Confuse Woman” is confusing on several fronts. To “Confuse means to make something simple more complex or to cause someone to become bewildered or perplexed. According to the order of the “Hexagrams” presented at the start of the video, the “Confuse Woman” appears here and the Gun and the Blade appear after this. However, the only other “Gun” in the video appears BEFORE this scene at 2:43 seconds (see time stamp on the image from Hexagram P “The Gun”. This frame is at 2:45 (a couple of seconds after the gun in shown. Why then is the “Gun” a hexagram AFTER the Confuse Woman? It’s confusing. Also note that her hand looks bloody. Perhaps this is explained in the Hexagram Q “The Blade” where we see a blade being stabbed into a woman’s hand. So here we have a woman with a bloody hand before we see the image of a woman’s hand being stabbed and we have seen the gun out of order. This is “Confusing”.

Hexagram R the “Riptide”

No image appears to fit the final “Riptide” suggesting the entire song is the final Hexagram.
