Moreover, all you assholes saying that 2 am closing is not 2 am closing...when it fucking IS.....why would he come in AT THAT TIME when there would be the fewest patrons!!!!! Obviously if it was a real attack, Mateen would have stormed in at a time when it was in full swing, like 11 or 12.

'Closing time' means last orders. It's when people start to think about leaving, not a time after which the bar has to be empty.

Great point, OP. I can tell many of the people disagreeing in this thread have never been to a bar or club at closing time. 2AM close means 1:45AM last call and forcing people out at 1:55AM. Also, most bars set their clocks 10-15 minutes fast just to make sure no one is being served that close to closing time. Dram shop laws hold the bartenders accountable for people overserved. This is huge, and I can't believe it didn't cross my mind sooner.

Probably thought it'd be easiest to kill more people when the lights were on and the clientele were at their drunkest.

It's true that everyone might not have left a club that closes at 2 am by exactly 2am, but all the lights would be on and the place would be emptying.

Usually hurried along by the staff who just want to clear up and get home!

Bit in the case of this event, I don't think it was open that night in the first place.

Yes, most clubs will lock off serving drinks a good 15-20 mins before the closing time.

Maybe your experience with gay bars in the UK is different. Maybe you stay late illegally and buttfuck each other, but here in the US closing time means exactly that. CLOSED.

The bar had an event going on that night which kept the club open until 4:30 at the earliest, probably a little later had the bar not been victim of a shooter..

The bar did NOT close at 2am. That would've probably been the busiest part of the night considering there was an event that didn't even end until 2:30, with the club still being open til almost 5.

Thanks for your post, most people don't even consider the timing. And as perhaps you can see on this thread, tons of shills have shown up. You can tell they're shills by their angry, hostile, insulting tone, and that they keep saying the same thing which isn't true anyway. I just keep deleting them.

Obviously closing time IS closing time and the staff starts winding down before that point because they want to go HOME. They're not getting paid for extra time, why would they stay.

Orlando closing time, as I stated in the opening post, is 2 AM. They tried last year to raise it to 3 am, but could not get a vote so it REMAINS 2 AM.

This is from the same article I cited but the info can be found elsewhere. The article says the time is strictly enforced.

It probably was an after hours club, we have a bunch of them in my area .

Me and a bunch of friends would leave our regular bar at last call go eat and head over to the after hours club they usually open at 3 am

For those of you trolls who keep trying to repeat that a 2 AM closing doesn't mean everyone has to leave at 2 AM....YES IT DOES. That, in the United States, IS what a closing time means. It means, general public, aside from employees and maybe their own personal friends, HAVE TO LEAVE. The general public has to go elsewhere when the bar CLOSES, if the town has an official closing time, which Orlando does...OF 2 AM. Usually if you stay open beyond the closing time and the authorities find out, there can be stiff fine or other penalties involved.

Moreover, the employees don't want to hang around indefinitely for an hour or two or three after the official closing time...they're paid for a certain set hours and that's what they do. They generally want to go home.

Mateen WOULD have known the 2 am closing as apparently he'd been there many times before, per reports. AND that was the standard closing time for Orlando. No terrorist would go into a bar AT CLOSING TIME, when the patrons have been let out or are on the way out, to commit a jihadi attack, with all his guns and suicide vest (which he allegedly told cops he was wearing). He would have gone in when things were in full swing, probably around midnight or so and blasted things up for maximum damage.

Those of you in other countries who use words like DISCOTEK, which we don't generally use in the US (and I have a pretty good idea of where YOU'RE from) obviously don't know how our closing hours work here with bars. When the closing hour comes....THEY'RE CLOSED. People have left or are in the process of being pushed out. PERIOD.

It is obvious to me by the number of trolls hitting this thread, that this is an important point that you're trying to bullying or lie your way out of. And you can't, I won't let you. Mateen wouldn't have attacked the club at this time BUT it would be a great time, after getting rid of the patrons, to STAGE A FAKE ATTACK.

I will be checking into whether any employees were "injured" in this "attack" as well.

op, you're incorrect. Illegal to serve alcohol after 2am, legal to serve drinks and stay open after 2am. Even here in the D some clubs stay open later than 2.

Closing time IS closing time. I cited an actual article about them possibly extending time to 3 am, and that there is only ONE after hours bar in Orlando. YOU WILL HAVE TO CITE PROOF OF YOUR STATEMENT TOO. If you can't, I'll remove it.

As the article I posted says, and as I have said several times in this thread, there is ONLY ONE AFTER HOURS BAR IN THE ORLANDO AREA and it is called Club Nokturnal.

Yeah, so they're allowed to serve alcohol and admit new customers after 2AM.
